condenser fan/compressor clutch fuse keeps blowing
Hey everyone,
Iv Been doing lots of research online about this, but I still can't find the answer.
I have a 96 Lx Accord aand the A/C doesn't blow cold. I looked at the fuse box and discovered the Blue 15A "condenser fan fuse" was blown. I replaced it and it popped right away. I replaced the Condenser fan relay, and put in a new fuse and it popped again immediately Like before.
I read somewhere that the condenser fan and the compressor clutch use the same fuse.the gentleman that posted it recommended disconnecting the compressor clutch and trying again. when I did and I turned on the AC again, the fuse didn't blow and the fan came on and ran like normal.
so I now know That the fan isn't the issue.
what I don't Know is what the problem is.
Is it a short in the compressor and I need to replace it?
or the compressor clutch that's bad, and I need to replace That?
or could it be something else?
any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thank you guys in advance!

You should be able to just replace the clutch assy and save the cost of a compressor. Also this can be done without evacuating the coolant.

Re: condenser fan/compressor clutch fuse keeps blowing
It can be the compressor clutch or a short in the wiring from the compressor clutch relay to the compressor clutch. Take a close look at the wiring first. The red wire on the compressor clutch relay goes to the compressor clutch. Sometimes it is not the clutch, as there can be a short to ground when there is a certain movement/vibration on the wiring.

Wow thank you both for the reply and for the pictures! I'll check the wiring when I get home. The only thing that kinda scars me is I didn't see a ground wire at all for the compressor last time I looked. But I also could have missed it. Like I said I just got the car so who knows what the guy before me did. Thansk!

Okay, so I checked the red wire coming from the compressor clutch and it looked good. The ground wire looks good too, so it looks like I'm replacing the clutch. Any suggestions on the easiest way to get to it?
