Default Code for factory radio?

Hi everyone. I bought a 1995 Accord EX two months ago and just recently the battery gave out on me. When I got it charged back up, the radio prompted me for a code. I had no idea what it was. I called the dealer and they weren't helpful and wanted to charge me money.

By reading past posts on this website I determined I needed the code off the back of the head unit. After some trial and error I was able to remove the factory stereo and get the code: M3F401015 . I am wondering if anyone can look up the code for my radio? Thank you so much.

My suggestion, call a bunch of dealership until they help you out. That is pretty much the only way you will be able to get that code without the card that the car came with.

Just check and see if there is nothing in the owners manual about it. A little business sized card, or it may be written somewhere in the manual.

Call a Honda parts department that you might frequent or a shop you might know who buys from a dealer and tell them you replaced your battery and don't remember your radio "code" but have that "code num." AND serial number near where you got the other number and your VIN (just in case they ask). I can't remember which one they need. DPJ
Give me those two identifications and I will get your code, as last option!

it might on a sticker thats stuck to the side wall of inside your glove box

if you go to a dealere they may ask you for proof of ownership (registration, etc) just to make sure you paid for the car, but they should do it

Thanks for the help.

I looked all around the glovebox and through the owner's manual but didn't find any 5 digit numbers that would work. Just called some dealers but they are closed on Sundays. I'll call back tomorrow and report my findings.

Should the dealers be willing to look up the radio code for free?

Thanks again.

Definately yes. That is, the dealers should give you the code at no charge to you, provided that you can provide the numbers off of the back of the radio.

The reason the first dealer was wanting to charge you money was for the labor involved with removing your radio to get the serial number. I suppose it would be possible that a dealer might want to charge you for the code even if you have the numbers - if that happens I guess just keep in mind that they won't work with you and move on to the next dealership. And of course, remember that the next time you need to buy parts.

Alright, so I called the three Honda dealers in Hawaii and was not impressed. The ones I didn't buy the car from basically didn't want to help and I had to bring the car in. The dealer I did buy the car from wasn't helpful and couldn't look up the code over the phone. He wants me to bring in the car as well.

The whole point of pulling the radio myself was so that I didn't have to spend hours bringing in the car for such a small simple problem. So if anyone has any good ideas, I would be most appreciative. At this point I'm just pissed at the dealers. The last 6 digits of my vin arae 104404, the code of the back of the radio is M3F401015 and the code on the top of the radio is MA260006. Let me know if you need any more information. As always, thanks a ton for any help.

Do you need more numbers that what I wrote in my last post? I didn't notice any other numbers of the radio unit. Thanks for the help,

Jay

my car came with all original stuff when they bought it here in texas, and i was lucky enough to have mine...if youre lucky to still have most of the stuff from the car, look for a card that looks like a credit card minus the strip on the back..it will have like some writing on it and say honda factory radio code...mine has that, but if yours dont..try like that one guy said, keep asking dealers

Look on the top and bottom of your radio. The serial number shouldnt have letters in it.

Rollercosta, if you want to give me your code I'll go ahead and try that. Couldn't hurt, right?

Guess this means I need to take apart the dashboard again to get the code. All my screwdrivers are at work, so I'll have to do it during the week. Damn, I thought I pulled all the numbers off the unit. I'll post again with more info, thanks!

My code is on a sticker on the back side of the ashtray - you have to pull it out.
It is a 94 EX.

A dealer should not give you the code over the phone. It is against policy as it kind of defeats the purpose of an anti-theft code.

At my dealer if you come in with the serial #, registration and drivers license we will give you the code.

just take the player over to the dealers, and the only thing they do charge you
for is taking the player out and putting it back it. Other wise there's no charge.
So what you have to do is take the player to the dealer. And they'll just give it
to you. As long as you can prove to them you own that car.

Yea, I know taking it to the dealer would probably be the easiest thing. The dealer I would take it to is the same one I bought the car from. They conveniently DELETED all their car records prior to 1999. That is the cause of this whole problem. Otherwise they would have the information. So I am not impressed by their service, and would like not to take the car in to them.

I also like to fix things myself before asking someone else to. Especially when it is something so minor as the radio.

I took the dash apart again yesterday, and found that there was another number on the radio that I missed from the first time I took it apart. It was on the underside, and only accessible by taking off the accessory tray. Anyway, the serial number on the bottom is: 93G838441. I know it's not supposed to have letters in it, but it does.

Now can anyone just give me the code? Or do I have to go bring it to the dealer? I would really prefer not to rely on the dealer for this. Thanks for all of your posts. Good to know I am not alone with this. Thanks again ,

Jay

take it to any honda dealer. Or maybe even acura.

it should be like a 5 or 6 digit numerical number only.
Usually its not printed on the player unless someone
already had wrote it on there. (like mine)

mine is 15562 might want to try that, and after so many tries it will lock you out. But you gotta do is either unhook your cd player and hook it back up, or disconnect and connect the battery.
