Default check engine code P0730

I plugged in my OBD II reader it throws this code at me with the description of "incorrect gear ratios." My car is a 1998 accord lx, auto. D4 and D3 work only about 15% of the time and all other times lags for about 5 seconds on engagement or doesnt even engae fully causing the car to rev freely as if in neutral. 2nd and 1st gear seem unaffected and I would just like to know what they maine culprit of this would be? Is it electrical like a solonoid somewhere? or does the tranny need to be dropped and possibly replaced? Any input would be appreciated.
