CEL - P1457 (Could this damage PCM?)
Hello all -
About a month ago, I got a CEL, and I went to Advanced to get it checked. It came up as a P1457 and I originally thought it might be the gas cap, since I got a similar code sometime back. So I got the code reset and about 400-600 miles later, the code came up again, and it was a P1457 again. I got it reset once more and then the same result, it came back on. I've done some research and I have helms manual, it's a leak near the EVAP charcoal canister.
From what I've read, these systems can be tricky to figure problems out with. Typically bringing it to the dealer is the best course of action, but I got quoted $263 for just replacing the purge valve and it would be another $400 to replace the canister; I don't really want to go this route.
The issue is I have read in at least two different sources that by ignoring this problem, you can potentially damage or fry your PCM. I want to avoid this at all costs and I want to see if I can solve this issue myself. Do you guys recommend any particular course of action first? Additionally, have any of you heard about P1457 shorting out the PCM? Thanks.

I find it interesting that people can ask how much does it cost for an H22 swap and how much power I can get from bolt-ons, and get the same silly answers over and over again. However, no one can even peep at a problem that actually matters.
