CEL, came on Code P1456
96 Accord EX
Hey, I was driving home the other night and my CEL came on.. The next day i took it to AutoZone to check for the code and P1456 came up.. he said its a manufacturer specific code and that i would have to take it to the local honda dealer..
I've read up on it.. and i always tighten my gas cap, I tried resetting the ECU by pulling its fuse and the hazard light fuse, the light still came on
This sounds like its going to be expensive, this is the dealer that charged my 80$ to tell me that i needed an actuator for my drivers side window (and would also charge over 500$ to fix the problem)
Any suggestions?

P1456 IS the code you get for a loose gas cap. But what it REALLY means is that your gas tank isn't airtight. Check for a messed-up gasket on the gas cap. There's a handful of hoses alongside the fuel fill-tube, something there might be leaking or cracked? It's even possible for the gas tank itself to have an air leak at the top where the fuelpump or gauge sender are bolted in. Check for stuff like that.

I don't really have the money to get this fixed now, but if i continue to drive it will the problem get worse / cause more damage in the long run ?

Probable causes straight from the honda manual:
-vacuum connection
-fuel tank
-fuel tank pressure sensor
-EVAP bypass solonoid valve
-EVAP two way valve
-EVAP control canister vent shut valve
-EVAP control canister
-EVAP pure control solonoid valve

If you find a hose that came off of it's connection, put it back on. That's free if you do it yourself. Even if you have to fix a bad gasket on the gas cap that's pretty cheap.
