Can I slide out distributor to replace o-ring?
Happy Holidays my gurus.
I did a ton of work two months ago on my Accord 4cyl 1998. I replaced my timing belt, valve cover seal, belts, etc. However, I was not sure if I can take my spark plug wires from the dizzy cap, remove the cap, unbolt the distrubtor from the head, pull out the distributor in order to replace the o-ring without damaging the engine and be able to re-install.
Can I do as I listed above? From my Civic, when I slid out the distributor, I found the o-ring on the dizzy shaft. Is it the same on the Accord? I bought the o-ring per suggestion from hondautomotiveparts.com so I thought I should replace it during my vacation. Cheers
thanks all...

yes you can, but one thing u need to do first>>> just take a sharpie and mark a line on the dizzy and a line on the mounting location to ensure ur ignition timing stays the same.
not sure if the o rings are the same but im sure they are damn close. theyre only like a buck.
why would need to do this if there is no oil leaking frm the dizzy ?
peace of mind im guessin.

Thank you Neke,
I totally forgot about marking the dizzy to keep the mounting location the same. Geezz thank you. You saved me from a huge mistake. You get BIG kudos for that.
Replacing the o-ring cuz I bought it. In fact, at 100K, I change out almost everything I can in a car. I always change this just for peace of mind and it is an easy change, but have never done it on an Accord. Anything I can get a hold of that is easy for me I change out. It is my commuter car and my kids ride in it. It must be running at it's best at all times.
Thanks again CHIEF...thank you.

i couldnt agree more.
one more peice of advice would be the cam seal. another cheap dollar seal that can go bad(especially at this mileage mark). id suggest to keep an eye on it if it wasnt replaced.

actually, you shouldn't need to do this on a OBD2 car IIRC. The distributor doesn't rotate to change ignition timing like you can on OBD1 cars. The distributor housing holes should just be holes and not slots that allow the housing to be rotated. I may be wrong on this though, I can't quite recall exactly.
When putting the distributor back in, make sure you have the key and keyway aligned correctly. I never thought you could put it in wrong, even though I read of people doing it, until my friend with a 95 EX called me and said he did some work and now it wont start. They pulled the distributor off to get better access to the coolant hose that was leaking. When they put it back in it was 180* off and wouldn't start. What made me think it was off was when we pulled the distributor off if was real tight. So after pulling it and rotating the shaft 180* the car fired right up.
Also, we didn't pull the plugs or the cap to take the distributor off, we had enough room to unbolt the distributor and pull it out, flip the shaft and put it back in.
