Re: Can I rent a crankshaft pulley holder?
Bumping this because thanks to this thread, and my research for the post quoted below, my store now carries three of these tools in stock.
We rent them out all the damn time. I don't know why we didn't stock them before, but now I think we're the only store in the area with them.
So if you need the crank pulley tool, here is the information. Autozone can get it, but I doubt most carry it in stock.
THIS IS A LOAN-A-TOOL. So the idea is you come in, order the tool, pay for it, it comes in, they call you, you pick it up, go home and use the tool, bring it back to the store for a full refund, including any tax.
VDP (vendor direct parts) takes 2-4 days for my store, depending on where the weekend falls compared to when you're ordering the item.

HONDA HARMONIC HOLDER
27176 Part type: Harmonic Balancer
Price: $35.99
Features & Benefits: OEM automotive specialty tools are designed to perform day after day in any environment. Out engineers design tools that maximize both performance and budget. OEM tools out-perform the competition time after time.
* Holds crankshaft damper when tightening/loosening crankshaft bolt on Honda and Acura engines
* 50 mm hex design
* Chrome moly steel for toughness
* 1/2 In. drive square for breaker bar attachment
Part #: 27176
Color / Finish: Black
Crankshaft applications: 2" Pilot Truck CLutch Alignment Shaft for Honda and Acura
Drive Size: Multiple Drive Size Set
Etched/Stamped Size Identification: No
Material: Lightweight Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon Body
Here it is shown on their site.
The only problem is this tool is VDP (Vendor Direct Parts), which means it's order only. It's not stocked in the store. For my store that means two to four days until it arrives to our store through FedEx. I did check and it is still available for order (some VDP items, when you prompt the system to order the item, will come back with a "vendor out of stock" message). On the website "Store Pick Up" is greyed out for me too (you might want to be sure for your area though). Pricing may vary.
So, looks like it is available, but it's not a normally stocked item.
NAPA kept it in stock, but it wasn't a loaner, I just bought it.

Re: Can I rent a crankshaft pulley holder?
I disagree.
I know there's a CD5 Accord bone stock that has its timing belt break on them. It has a goodyear t-belt and there's no crack or chunks missing whatsoever and looks new and still breaks on them. I recommend Honda Geniune Belt if you want a longer lasting T-Belt.

To add to this thread, OReilly's Auto Parts also rents them.
P/N: 67101
$49.99 fee, but if you return the tool withing 48 hours you will get a full refund.

Re: Can I rent a crankshaft pulley holder?
I know I am reviving an old thread here, but I think it is for a good cause. I'm sure that for most people it makes sense to just rent the tool and get your money back, but if you have more than one honda or there is a good chance that you will need it more than once it's probably easier just to have it. I found one on Amazon for $15.11. It doesn't come with a handle but a breaker bar or ratchet will do the trick.

Re: Can I rent a crankshaft pulley holder?
This thread is still very useful!
Autozone PN is still 27176. It listed on their website as a "performance pulley," but PNs beginning in 27 usually indicate loaned tools. And this particular PN is the pulley / harmonic balancer holder / tool.
I had to order it, as there weren't any in stock today. It'll be in soon, and I'll be able to return it when I'm finished and get all of my money back (as is standard for "renting" tools from Autozone).
Details:
I moved from California to Virginia. My tools are still in Cali. I already have one of these there, so I don't want to buy another here; I hate having doubles. I'm glad this forum lead me to a solid resolution to my lame problem. These holders are essential for Honda owners (those who own Hondas with these pulleys anyway and who can't fab their own tools).
Thanks, Honda-Tech.

Re: Can I rent a crankshaft pulley holder?
I respect O'Reilly Auto Parts, but there are none around me in Northern VA. In fact, none north of Richmond (well... Waynesboro).
Any details on the part if one were to be looking for it at O'Reilly?
