Default Bitter Winter, which Oil??? 0W-30?

I've been a big fan of this site since acquiring my 97 Accord V6 8 months ago, and I can't thank all of the previous posters enough for their help. Really. I have finally found myself in a spot where I need new input on something.

I live in Fargo ND, and temps in the winter typically dip down to 10 to 45 below zero ambient air temperature in Jan-Feb. My V6 has a valve slap noise until warmed up, even in the summer.

I've been running 5-W30 Mobile one so far. Should I go to 0-W30 for this upcoming nasty winter?

Please share your thoughts, I really respect them!

IIRC 5W is good for -30°F. If you are seeing colder than -30°F on a regular basis, then YES use 0W. I would also recommend a synthetic like Mobil 1. Conventional Dino oil does not hold up well to extreme temps for prolonged periods, be it the cold or heat.
