I'm working on replacing the axle in my 92 Accord Wagon (no ABS).

I've got everything apart, the old axle out and the new axle "almost" in. And that's the problem.

I can't seem to get it to pop all the way in, it sits about half an inch out of the transmission. What's the trick to getting it in?

Also, I'm planning on draining and replacing the transmission fluid, where is the drain plug and how much fluid needs to go in?

Make sure you compare the axle ends to make sure they are the same. Once you have the end in the transmission you need to kind of ram it in. But dont go ape **** nuts. You need to compress the snap ring on the end of the axle and it will pop in.

The drain plug will be by where the pass side i think axle goes into tranny. dont know how much fluid. just fill it till the fluid starts coming out fill hole if its a manual./

as for transmission you can only drain a small amout at a time cause the tourk converter is full of oil;, they say it has to be done three times to get it all, as for the axlels i had some that would not go in and had to take em back, they shuld pop right in.

i had this issue just recently, make sure the spring clip is in all around. if its sticking out you wont be able to slide it in because it is blocking the grooves around the end, from sliding into the transaxle.

I have used a large (1.5 - 2 inch diameter) wooden rod a few feet long and a rubber mallet to drive them in (lot easier working outside the wheel opening). Don't hit too hard or you will damage the boot. Keep the rest of the axle lined up with the end as best you can. The retaining ring should offer some resistance, if it doesn't, it won't "retain" the axle in the transmission after you install it. For an auto, you'll be able to drain about 2.5 out of 6 quarts in the tranny. Drain, fill, drive a little, drain, fill, drive, drain, then fill will change out about 80% of the fluid. A transmission shop may be able to tie into the cooler lines to do a more complete change.

That way, you can get much more of the fluid and don't have to throw away so much. It will pay for itself by the second time you change your fluid.

How is that going to get any more fluid out than draining it through the plug? The problem is getting it out of the torque converter. Any one ever tried briefly running the engine with the trans in park or neutral and the drain plug out to try to pump additional fluid out of the torque converter?
