Averaging 19MPG city. Need help.
I just changed my spark plugs hoping this would help my mileage. Air filter is clean. I'm getting about 19mpg in the city. THIS IS NOT ACCORD MILEAGE. I don't drive with a heavy foot, either.
Does anyone have any ideas to what could be causing this problem, or how I can increase my mileage?

i think the main reason for the bad mileage is the OXYGEN SENSOR, but you can try changing the spark plug wire while your at it. the O2 sensor shouldnt cost too much maybe around $60 to $100. its really worth the better mpgs. good luck

no the real question is how is it being calculated, even without a tuneup ever i dont think you dump X2 the fuel required. unless fuel injectors are staying open longer then suppose to. i think its a math error if you ask me, me accord use to get 25-26 mpg and i have a heavy foot. i dropped to 19-20mpg after PROGRAMMING to dump more fuel in. just my 2 cents

yes the key and you can ask any mechanic, fill your tank at the pump to the first click, then drive doesnt matter to whatever level, and refill gas to the first click again, divid the miles driven by the # of gallons on your receipt= pretty damn close mpg

Re: (otacon122)
I dont know I think MPG change drastically according to the engine and emission components Conditions!
for awhile I was getting about 200 miles in the city on a full tank.......but I knew I had a few problems!
I had a bad head it was noisey as hell abused it alot! got it rebuilt!
Cleaned out the EGR ports! I think on the 4th gens they need to be cleaned every other year!
and a Master Tune-up
I get the most 250 now

Re: (radiuslight)
I always fill up the tank when it hits the quarter empty mark.
Miles driven / amount of gallons used.
I think i will be cleaning my o2 sensor on my exhaust manifold soon. Is there a special tool for it? If that does not solve my problem, I'll invest in a new o2 sensor.
Will i have to replace the one on the EM as well as the one on the CAT?
Thanks guys

yeah there is a speacial tool but only pussies use it, use an open ended 7/8" wrench, same with cat sensor
btw, they are 120bones from denso and ONLY use denso sensors<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by otacon122 »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">EPA rated the F22A4 at 19mpg city, 26mpg highway...If you're getting 19mpg city on the F22A4, you're right where you're supposed to be.</TD></TR></TABLE>yeahhh, quit bitchin

Re: (361 accord)
Removed the sensor from the exhaust mani today to inspect potential carbon build up. This is what I came upon..
I'm not sure what is "a lot of build up," and what is ok. Does this look like extreme build up, and would you guys recommend that I replace this?
If this looks like the average amount, and I shouldnt worry about it, I also thought that the fuel filter may be the reason behind my crappy mpg. What do you guys think?
