Your 97 cd5 speed limits at 120 mph? Mine speed limits at 115 mph. It has to be disabled from the ecm. I haven't done it just to save my own ***.
Going that fast especially that much over the speed limit where i live. Is criminal speed. It's a felony also comes with the wonderful tag, reckless driving, i have two points because of reckless driving. Insurance is a bitch because of it.
Some city's consider criminal speed a huge thing and will try you with attempted murder (i know Indio ca. Was doing that for a while i think it was over turned though).

Re: accord stalls at 120mph
Adding race gas will not allow your car to go any faster..... it is a speed limited option not octane limited option.
Besides that, There is no way to change it on your stock engine control unit (ECU). You need to purchase a new ECU that has the ability to be tuned.... I would suggest that before you look into tuning an ECU. You should upgrade your brakes and suspension if you haven't already done so.

Ignorance.
OP sounds like a dumb kid who has no realization of what he is talking about or who he is putting in danger (along with himself) by traveling anywhere near close to those speeds. Unless we're talking about a drag strip here, which considering OP wants to "get rid of their limiter" it doesn't sound like it.

I used to travel at those speeds. Not any more. I have two kids and a wife that depend on me, other people and families on the road I'm putting in danger driving like that not to mention getting a ticket, car impounded, jail time etc.
Now if i travel those speeds it's at night, on a desolate strip of highway with none else around to put in danger and the road is usually lit every few hundred feet by a street light so i can still see what's up ahead. Even then it's a very rare occasion. Been over a year since i have had that chance. (haven't built any good street rods recently)

Re: accord stalls at 120mph
Why the hell would you even go remotely that fast in a freakin 97 Accord (let me guess, a 4-beater)? Imagine if you had a tire blow out at those speeds. What if any weaknesses in your 16-yr old suspension reared their ugly heads then- bad wheel bearings, tie rods, etc? In my state, driving 85 mph+ is considered "driving with the intent to kill," where you can do one day of jail time for every mph above 85. Of course your driving record and insurance all go to hell for the next 10 yrs. By engaging in such reckless behavior, you put everyone else on the road and yourself in grave, grave danger

Re: accord stalls at 120mph
The ECU has a speed limiter and RPM limiter. When you hit the limting speed/RPM the ECU cuts fuel and spark to the cylinders. That's why you stalled. The reason your car has one is because there is no where, other than a race track, that your 20 year old car should be doing 120mph
Adding race gas will not allow your car to go any faster..... it is a speed limited option not octane limited option.
How do you get it fixed? There is nothing wrong with it.

Tires are the biggest thing to me. Don't want one or more shredding or peeling apart because the speed limit on them was exceeded.

Re: accord stalls at 120mph
It seems like everyone is jumping the gun here... I'm betting very few of the people that tune their cars go to the track. And why tune it for no reason? None of you are fooling anyone. My accord is almost completely stock. It's never been over eighty. Probably never will be. But, trying to act like none of you ever speed? That's just silly. And only a complete moron would speed that recklessly down a busy highway. I may have hit over hundred years ago in a faster car. But, it was as 92 civic put it. I'm sure the guy who posted the original question didn't ask it to be ridiculed for speeding. Even more sure is probably the fact that all of us have hit a speed limiter and thought about turning it off. Let's not be heretics. And OP... Just make sure it's what you want and be smart. But, it is your decision.
