Hello all, I've been on Honda-tech for a while but I lost my other account and the proxy prevents me from using a personal email here on base. I'm stationed in Yuma AZ at the Marine Corps. Air Station and I like to play around with my Accord here in Yuma. I currently have an H22 with a Skunk 2 Pro Series Intake and a AEM Cold Air. I got about 10K I'd like to invest in the motor, and I cant decide if I should go NA or Boost. From what I've researched, a turbo h22 is tricky due to the cylinder walls being "too thin" ? I also hear, on the other side of the coin, that its the pistons that fail, not the walls. For NA, I was looking at a full Skunk 2 Set up, which is the full valve train, Stage 2 Cams, Cam gears, probably going 450/550 CC Injectors, AEM fuel Rail, a good fuel pump to mix with the Skunk 2 Manifold, and possibly hondata. For pistons was planning on going the Type S cams so I dont need to bore out my block and get rods to fit, dunno which ones. What am I looking at for that setup ? We play in the sandbox for a living so the money is hard earned. As for the turbo, I have this kit off ebay, they advertised it as a sick lude setup and whatnot, but I can sell it to another Marine easy since there is alot of imports here on base. I just need some general advice on what I could expect with this setup. I already have full suspension, Sway bars and all that junk to boot, just time for the motor to get a make over, let me know! Which route you should go depends on your goals, and if you're willing to risk or sacrifice certain things. Boost will provide more power, but along with it comes more maintenance and higher chances of things screwing up. NA builds are typically more reliable, but do not produce as much power. Obviously there are some rare exceptions, but let's not go into that.

The only thing I can tell you is that your turbo kit is most likely junk. Most ebay kits use: manifolds that crack easily (if not braced) and have poor welds; turbos that fail after a short amount of time (and a couple that have literally split in half); and wastegates that are questionable (they're copies). Some people have had no problems with ebay kits, others do. I'm just warning you ahead of time...

Turbo Kit off a ebay!?!?!? usually a very bad bad idea . If you have 10k pull your motor send it off to go get sleeved build your own turbo setup.....10k is more than enough if your smart about it

I can get my blocked sleeved and whatnot for about 3K, comes with pistons and Rods, all that stuff. What else would I need to boost her ?

um a Turbo for 1!!! a manifold, Injectors, charge piping, intercooler, some kind of EM, blah blah blah..I reccomend te GT35..do a googel on it..I think you'll like what you find

I know of the parts in specific. I already have RC550 Injectors, AEM Fuel Rail, Walb. Fuel pump, Skunk 2 Intake Manifold, as for the turbo thats not hard to piece together. I'm trying to make sure I get all the little details good, the ones that blow **** up.

if you go turbo, dont drive it around until you get tuned, or your **** will blow up. i cannot stress this enough, GET TUNED

I know. Ill end up getting the entire kit together, then just taking it to a shop to have it installed+tuned. Its costly but atleast it will save the trouble of blowing **** up. Im about to send in my block to have it set up, excitied. Ill drive the shitty f22 around for gas mileage

the F22 is far from a bad motor my friend...for half the money your spending to boost your H...you could get very similar numbers out an f......

GT35 on an F series? that's a little big, don't you think? once the turbo spools it will be almost time to shift. plus that turbo is like $1300.

I'm looking into a new turbo for my built F right now and I'm thinking Precision SC34. I'm lightheartedly considering the SC61 but think it would be too big, just like the GT35.

no no no not for the F!!!!! for the built H a Gt35 would be perfect...an SC61 is kinda big for an F I recomend something like a Turbonetics\Garret hybrid t3/40e 57 trim turbo (48/50 ar) that be sweet

I didnt say the F is bad. I have 3 accords at the moment, I keep buying them from Deploying Marines. 2 have F22's, the ones I've bought. My accord has an h22. both of the Fs have over 160K on them, and one burns oil. However, the bodies and whatnot are in perfect condition, one has a new paint job lol. One of the F's has 168 on it, but runs strong. I hear the F is half the cost to boost efficiently so I dont know what I will do.

**** I wish I had 3 accords ahahahhhhaaa If I was you Id build the H and boost it...then boost 1 of the F22s(the non oil burning one) with a simple DSM setup for a daily driver and sell the other one!!!! aaaaaaaaaaaaaa to dream

Disco potato. Honestly, when I do my turbo setup on my H22 I'll prolly just slap on a GT28. If it's only being used for the street I'd much rather have the low spool ability than the high end power. 2000 RPM spool FTW.

It'd be pretty fun to boost an F with something like a 16G or a 14B thought. Would be a really cheap setup too.

DSM 450 injectors 40 bucks
ARP head studs 120 bucks
16G turbo/manifold 200 bucks
TIAL BOV 60 bucks
Intercooler 100 bucks
3'' pinch bent exhaust w/ muff 300 bucks (atleast around here)
Charge pipeing **** depends who you know! 300 bucks
Random turbo stuff....elbows, couplers, feed lines....200 bucks
P28 or P 72 ECU 100 bucks
Chipping it with Crome pro 100 bucks
2 hours of dyno tuning @ 150 per hour...300 bucks...
Oh wait lets not forget install!!!!!!????? 600-900 bucks
~I'd do it myself FREE!!!!~
God now lets not forget all that good stuff you want to replace! Oil pump, water pump, plugs, plugs wires, head gasket, fuel filter, PCV valve, god..........thats 500 right there!!!


now that I'm typing all this **** that better to go big or stay home! yup 1520 just for parts!!!!!! naw I'm good.....

I'm lucky to have a friend who selling me his old Turbo setup INCLUDING a Gt35 for 2000 thats including RC 750 injectors, the GT35 , Intercooler, Ram horn manifold, blah blah blah

I'd spend more time on the dyno, but thats just me. Most people don't spend enough time tuning.

It's not the time on the dyno, it's the Tuner. I'd spend the 600$, drive my car down to Evan's, get it tuned there and have one the best turbo tune jobs around.

Maybe for the good car, not the Civic, haha.

But yah, I'd much rather trailer the car to the states and do it up right, you know that. But for a budget build like above I'd just take it to a local and spend a little extra time.

Alot of typing up thee. What do I boost? I kinda just wanna rape people, but want a motor that will have future potential. My goal is to rape the 350z having homos that think they are pro just because they bought a z.

Haha, sorry that made me laugh.

Well if you want to "rape" 350Zs (even though the guy in the 350 prolly payed 25,000$ more than your car) I'd assume you'd need about 280-300 WHP? Anybody?

You could make that off of something like a GT30R, or a GT28 would even hold up to 300 WHP. Turbo size really depends on what you want out of your application. If you want your car to spool very quick and have power in the low to mid range you'd grab something like a GT28. If you want something with a higher top end, but are willing to trade off for spool time, then you'd want to go with something like a GT35 or bigger.

I'd suggest you read up a little more on turbocharging before you decide to do this. Our FI section on HT has alot of great resources and very helpful members. You can also check on http://www.howstuffworks.com for a simple and easy to understand turbo explination. Another good resource is Garretts website, forget it off the top of my head, but if you search Garrett turbos it should pop right up.

That last post was retarded sorry. Lol. Its not about cash or whatnot, I'm just trying to get a realistic view on what a h22 can actually do. I worked on much bigger motors with much bigger numbers, but decided to tone it down a bit and see what I can get out of an Import. I found a few accords that I liked that sold for dirt cheap due to deploying marines, so I snatched them up. I will find a decent Setup eventually. Thanks for the advice.

To Be exact so I can get the best advice :

I drive my accord daily, only 8 miles one way to work. The base I work at is only 8 miles from HQ.

I am looking for a good 0-80 kinda car, not really interested in going 120 as the law enforcement here is retarded, and getting in trouble in the Marine Corps here is double the trouble. Also that speed is pretty pointless if you ask me.

I will work on either the H22 or the F22, but would prefer the H22 as I already have a good amount of parts lying around for it, and like the concept of the H anyways.

Money is not a problem as I dont exactly plan to whip out a 300+ HP honda in 1 sitting, but Im not tied down financially as I am smart with my money.

Getting Dirty is ******* awesome, I love getting all greasy working on my car and whatnot, the little cuts and bruises are battle scars if you ask me, they make it work the work. On top of that Time is unlimited pretty much, I am stationed in the Desert.. there is nothing to do here Lol.
