99 Accord Coupe Door Not Opening
Hey Honda people,
My 1999 Honda Accord Coupe's driver's side door does not open.
The door locks and unlocks with the key, the remote, and from the inside. However, the door does not open. When you pull on the handle from the inside, you get the same resistance as the passenger side working door. We tried to simultaneously open the door from the inside and outside, push and pull, bang on it, but nothing worked. The door remains closed. It seems to unlock but not open. It's not frozen shut though (due to temperature). It's been warm here.
My mechanic(a bmw guy) looked in between the outer and inner door panels (where windows goes into when down) and said the actuator seems to be working and the rods seem to be connected. He assessed that whatever releases the door from the chassis is not functioning properly as the lock makes the right sounds and it seems like the door motor is working. The handle has good resistance and is connected to rods correctly. He could not remove the inner panel because the door is closed and the front of the inner panel is snug agains the dash (near rearview). The clips and screws there are unreachable without the door being open.
He thinks the door latch that rotates to release the door from the rod on the car frame (part 17 on link below) is not rotating to release the door. HAS ANYONE HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS? IF SO, HOW DID YOU FIX IT.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!! I CANT PASS INSPECTION IF THE DOOR DOESN'T OPEN.

I'm having the exact same problem. Have you found any resolution to this??? I feel like if I take it to the dealer they are going to charge me like $300. Anybody have an answer???? If so please email me at kevinrockett@yahoo.com. Thank you very much!

Re: 99 Accord Coupe Door Not Opening
If you do a search, at least for 4th/5th gens the easiest solution is to drill a hole into the locking mechanism to open the door and then to replace it.
Whether or not that works on 6th gens I'm not sure - but your mechanic friend should be able to take a look.
