Any thoughts on how to remove and clean this component? I'm not really sure how this part functions, so I don't know if the EGR valve itself is failing, or perhaps a vacuum line or solenoid that controls it has issues. Can anyone point me in the right direction here?

Car is a 1998 Honda Accord V6 coupe with 140K miles. I think I'm going to take it in for a Motorvac carbon treatment anyway, but I'd like to sort out these EGR codes first. Thanks!

That's a common problem. Honda has a warranty extension on the EGR system, but it's only up to 80,000 miles. You'll need to replace the EGR valve and clean out the EGR port in the intake manifold.

Thanks for the info. I'm having the technical service bulletin on the cleaning faxed to me from a dealer. ANyone got an inexpensive source for the EGR valve?

well the kit listed in the bulletin is only like 75 bucks so pick one up

you also have to drill out the sir intake and put a special tube in it, it is a special drill bit from honda. it also comes with a new egr valve

i work at honda dealership...and yes you guys are rite...98 accord apply to the egr recall bulletin...like previous statement... (drill out the egr port) because its clogged up and replace the egr valve...if your car is under 8 yrs and 80 k on the odemeter...the dealer can perform this repair (no expense ) to you.

Actually, the car's got 145Kmiles, but the dealer's going to do it for free anyway - they're interpreting the service bulletin as an 80K mile EXTENSION from the regular warranty. Also, my fiancee's car had an EGR code at 75K miles, and the dealer just cleaned it - didn't replace it like the service bulletin said. So if they didn't offer to warranty it I'd hit them up for that.

the extension cover cars until they reach 80k...... once you are over that you pay... the kits is only 75 bucks and most dealers only charge what the warr. time listed in the bulletin is...

Yeah I know what it's *supposed* to cover. But the service writer I spoke to promised it would be covered so I'm going to drop the car off, have it done, and then dig my heels in if there are problems when I pick up the car.

Well, I spent 3 hours in traffic today just to have the a$$hole of a service manager tell me the repair was NOT covered. If the guy had apologized for his service writer's mistake I would not be angry, but he was such a cocksmoke about it I wanted to pop him in the face (I did not).

Anyway - now I need to do the repair myself. Someone emailed me about having the EGR kit, but I deleted the email. CAN YOU PLEASE MAIL ME AGAIN, WHOEVER YOU ARE??? (think it was Chuck something...)
