98 Accord Radio question - Help needed
Hey guys and girls, My name is Jake and I'm new to the boards and Honda's themselves. I have a question about the stock radio in a 98 Accord, this car is my brothers so please don't flame me for what you are about to hear. My brother bought the car a few months ago and just recently he had to change the battery, the old one was dead. When he installed the new battery the radio asked for the safe code to be entered. Well, my brother didn't have the safe code because he never got it from the PO, so he entered random numbers until the radio locked down. He called a dealer and they want $80 to take the radio out, get the serial number from the radio, put the radio back in and look up the safe code. Is there an easier way? Could some one explain to me how to take out the radio? Any suggestions would be apperciated. I did a search on 'radio' and a few things came up, but nothing on that applies to this situationl.
Thanks for the help.
Jake
Thanks for the help.

unfortunately you have to remove the radio from the console so you can get the S/N. you can take it out yourself and get the S/N and then you can take it to your local honda dealer and they will give you the code.

Thanks for the replies
How would I go about taking out the radio? I figured this would be an option, I just don't know how to take the stock radio out.
Also when you called the Honda Dealer, was it to find out how to take out the radio? Get the safe code? Is there another way to get the safe code with out pulling the radio or having a dealer pull the radio.
Thanks
Jake

These are actually the instructions to install a trunk-mounted CD changer. To just remove the radio, follow steps 20, 21, and 24 through 27 (skip 22 and 23). It’s not a hard job at all.
You might want to check out the site that this comes from, http://www.handa-accessories.com , good prices on factory aftermarket items.

Thank you very much
Another question I have, I read through the manual of the car and it says that after 10 attempts to input the safe code, the radio with then go into another safe mode where nothing can be input. Is that something that I can reset? Or does a dealer need to reset that?
