Default 98 Accord LX Blue Book Price.. What the hell happened?

I bought my 98 Accord in august of 2001. At that time the blue book (NADA , how much a bank is willing to lend ) was $12500...

Today, I am trying to sell the car.. Guess what? NADA value is $6900.. KBB has private seller value of $5200.... What the hell is going on? It just doesn't look right.

It is a 98 Accorc LX, 4 cylinder, 5 speed, with sliding sun roof and 100K miles....

Anyone else, thinks this doesn''t seem right?

maybe cause its 3 years older now!! the demand for accords or atleast that body style is down so the resale price dropped along with it, this is just all a guess. other than that i cant help ya out man

Well, I am not worried about the $$$... All I am saying is that for a honda, it seems kind of drastic drop in value. I love the way the car drives, I just would expect a stock 98 accord to be around 8K that is all...

The upper model EX's with V6 will probably hold their value a little better, because as the car gets older, and there are more for sale, people will be looking to get an upscale model, which might hold its value a little better.

Thats my guess anyway..

If it makes you feel any better, a 1998 Ford Taurus LX, with V6, Automatic, and Moonroof, KBB Private Party is $3,600 in EXCELLENT condition..

that seems about right. When I got my car totalled they gave me 6600 for it. It was also a 98 LX but auto, no sunroof, and it had 143k on it. I think the 5spd is causing the decrease in price.

You think that is bad.

buy a GM sedan, wait four years, and then compare difference. You will be happy you bought the honda

I paid $8000 for the honda back in 2001 which was the trade in value, so I thought I will come out ahead.. I guess the 92-95 civic value is what got me thinking about this....

Another reason might be that in 2001 your car was still the latest gen. accord now its not.

lx model doesn't have a sunroof, nor is it an option.. so it wouldn't be oem..

I am pretty sure it was an option.. I still have the original Honda sticker that lists the options it has and the price....

Price new was around $18900

Ok, this is very weird....

I checked the dealer sticker and like you guys said it is not listed on there...

But the reason why I thought it was OEM, is because it is electrical and it looks like an OEM job.... Man.... So my POS LX is not as boring as I thought....

Out of curiosity, where is the switch to operate your sunroof?

Another reason the '98 may have dropped in price may be because people are looking for folding side mirrors? OK, maybe not.

Right in front of the sunroof.. I can take pics

Assuming this is the sun roof,
there a switch right there.. looks very good and leaks

The drop of $6000 in value over a period of 2.5 years is still high though... I mean it is a Honda to an oldsmobile

What hapened is the used car market is miserable. It is a lot eassier to get great deals on a new car so why buy used? I just sold my 00 EX cpe 4cyl 5spd for 5k w/112k. The vehicle had been in an accident that was repaired.

I don't know what you consider a great deal on a new car... but that is impossible to get in my book.... I see no reason to buy a new car....

I see leasing as renting it, and financing it is better but still not your car till you pay it off..

Lat year I bought a 96 Volvo turbo wagon for $3700.. Today the bank is willing to give anyone $12500 to buy it... Now, that is a good deal

PS Nothing wrong with the volvo, had 96k miles and everything worked great.

A couple of months ago I picked up a '93 945T (940 wagon) for $1,800 from my brother-in-law, with 133,000 miles on it, though it has been salvaged ~ 10 years ago (side impact). The dealer price on it (not counting the salvage) per Edmunds is ~ $5,500 or $6,000. Also, http://www.brickboard.com is a great place to ask any questions about your Volvo, if you have any.

As for the sunroof, on the 6th generation EX, are the controls at the sunroof, or on the dash?

Back to the main topic, yes, the rebates on new cars has affected the used car market quite heavily, that would be a major reason as to why it's value is so much lower.

I THINK YOU ARE RIGHT. YOU KNOW THAT A CARS VALUE DEPRECIATES 15% AS SOON AS YOU PULL OFF THE LOT.

1996 Accord EX Sedan, 5spd.
101,000 miles. Excellent Condition.

Private Party Value: $5,475

And that's from kbb.com, was $5,600+ a few weeks ago... lame.
