Default 96 Accord wiper problem

The windshield wipers act weird on my 96 Accord. When they are on a fast setting, the wipers will go all the way to the edge of the windshield trim, and are very noisy. But, when they are on a slow setting, and the windshield isn't that wet, they will go to about 5 inches away from the edge of the windshield. Also, when standing outside the car with the wipers in the park position, you can pull them up about 3 inches of travel. Is there something loose or worn out, or what?

I'd like to know the answer to this too. My 92 EX driver side wiper seems to overshoot by about that much in both directions.

There are nylon bushings in the linkage that can wear out, and sometimes the bushing pops out of the rod ends.
I would first suggest that you be sure the wiper is tight on the post. You can flip up the bottom part of the wiper arm to get to the nut.

It isn't a fun job removing the plastic cowling that covers the wiper linkage, and many times the plastic clips will break. The rubber molding is also held on with small clips.

Here is a link to Autozone's repair guide that might help too:

I just took the whole thing apart today but the 2 separate places the wire go into the motor stumped me. You can take the top off where the gears are but I couldn't get to the wires on the bottom. Since you can't get the wires off you can't pull the whole assembly out....WTF?

It would seem that the drive link from the motor to the Right Side Wiper Pivot may have broken at the ball link. Refer #12

If you can move both wiper arms together by grabbing just one, that tells me that the cross link #11 is secure - the problem is most likely #12, the arm which links the drive motor to the right pivot bellcrank.

I wanted to pull the whole assembly out to check everything over but the wires stopped the party. Any suggestions? I am going to go get all new clips at Honda this week so when i pull it apart again it will be easier to reassemble. There is a little cross brace on top of the cowl that also makes getting the assembly out much harder.

As I recall the bushings are not available separately. I think you will need to get the whole link with two new end busings from the dealer. I had the same problem a while back. If you call the dealer the numbers in the figure won't help you will need to tell them what the link that you need connects to in order to get the correct one.

Good luck.

True, the link sockets are not serviced seperately.
The illustration I supplied was direct from the Honda Parts catalog.
Ironically, it's for the 1996/97 Accord (all models) so calling out a number with a reference to that page will get you the correct piece.

If there is a question; right click on the illustration; save it in your "My Pic's" folder, print it out and take it to your dealer for reference.

To get the wires out, unplug the connector, then pull out the whole motor assembly after the mounting bolts are remove.

Thanks. I was looking at it again and realized that is what i have to do. Can I buy that whole assembly minus the motor? I'll just replace everything if it is not too expensive.

Any idea of the cost? Where is the best place to order Honda parts online? I have a Porsche 911 as well and I order all my parts from a dealer in Oregon because they are sooo much cheaper than my local stealer. Not just a little but a pretty significant difference in prices.

156.00$ USD + Shipping from Majestic Honda (#10)

http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...NDSHIELD+WIPER

That's cheaper than what most dealers would charge Wholesale accounts.
The only other options are used (recycled) or EBay (questionable)

So I finally got around to this project and ordered the arms #11 and #12 in the illustration. Anyone know how these come apart? I haven't really tried it yet because the parts haven't come in yet.
