h22 intake manifold iab question...pic
I've got my swap about ready to install in the car. Trying to decide what to do about intake manifold as far as iab system. I might just take out the secondaries cause im not sure the system i have is complete/operable. there is a black box under the manifold with vacuum hoses and an electrical connector. mine has two holes in the very back that looks like maybe something was screwed into it and is now missing? can anyone tell me about that? (if i had any money left to get the skunk 2 manifold i would, but preventive maintenance trumped that for now) should i just take out the secondaries for now til i get that manifold later or plug that box up and see if i can get the iab system to work?

Your black box is busted. There should be vacuum hookups at those two ports. It's a fairly common thing that usually gets busted when they dismantle those cars.

I took that black box out and hooked it up by vacuum. I'll try to get a picture for you on how to go about that. The CD looks clean!
EDIT: Here it is,
"the iab diaphragm is circled in red.
there should be a vacuum line connected at arrow #2 that goes down below the intake manifold. remove that vacuum line from the location at arrow #2.
connect the vacuum line on the diaphragm (arrown #1) directly to the port on the side of the intake manifold (arrow #2) that is now unused because you just removed it in the previous step. feel free to trim the hose to do so."
Hope this helps. I ran like this for almost a year then got myself a blacktrax IAB delete spacer which is a CNC piece that works as a thermal to reduce heat in place of my stock IAB spacer. You can double stack it too for more power.

thanks nus, i was looking at those spacer plates also and wondering what would be the difference of just removing the butterflies and leaving the stock plate and rod in there?

I'm sure they do help a little as there are no butterfly plates & rods in the way as air rush in. The plate also work as a thermal gasket to soak up heat like the Hondata gasket; thus, flows much smoother IMO. Double stack them with longer studs and you'll feel the difference.

well i am going to get the skunk 2 manifold soon, so for the temporary solution is it better to leave them in and worse case scenario, they will stay open all the time or just take them out all together? So whats better, open all the time or not there at all?

**** it i just bought the skunk 2 manifold and a 70mm throttle body, gonna wait til they come in then put the engine in!

Are you gonna get it portmatch at the TB opening for optimum flow? That would be another way to increase great low+topend power. I did notice a difference when I got my IM portmatched to my S2 68mm TB.

Lmao you are a funny guy! Accord looks nice. I am at the same debate right now. Skunk2 or iab spacers? Im thinking of getting the s2k TB and doing the double stack teflon spacers for more intake volume and then doing the hondata thermal manifold to head gasket for ultimate cool intake charge.

^--- Ya you are missing nipples on the end of your box. Mine came the same way. I would recommend you fix it and leave the secondaries if you want it to perform properly. If you want to upgrade I recommend the Euro R manifold.
