95 accord overheating/ fan issue
Hey guys, I have a 95 accord with the f22b2 engine in it. It's an automatic. I left a friend borrow it, (stupid I know) and when he brought it back it overheated and the fans wouldn't work. Both the fans do not come on (they previously did). I replaced the radiator, the coolant temperature ecm switch, both fan master switches, the thermostat, and the relay. I also checked the fuse and it is good. I also tested the radiator fan and it is also good. I ran it today for about 30 minutes and the fan wouldn't come on. I bled the air from the system and filled it. The tempature gauge read just below half, but the coolant was very warm and steaming. Not sure what to do next. Any help?

Coolant is going to steam in a 1atm environment, the cooling system is normally double ambient pressure. The problem is its very hard to know for sure what the temperature gauge means.
Have you tested the fans to see if they work? I think you'll have to pull out the wiring diagrams and a multimeter at this point. The fans should be working at this point.

Re: 95 accord overheating/ fan issue
Yeah my tempature gauge doesn't have any numbers by it so all I can see is its right below half. All the fan switches have been replaced and I have tested the cooling fan and it is good. I think I might have to break out some wiring diagrams and check it all. It doesn't overheat any more but the fan isn't coming on yet so it's hard to tell if it will when I drive. Maybe I'll take it for a cruise and see if it heats up enough to kick in a fan.

Re: 95 accord overheating/ fan issue
I have the same problem with my 1990 Accord. Does the condenser/cooling fan come on when you turn the heater/AC fan on? Mine does but that is it, Heater.AC fan off, no fans at all. Plus the cool down process is not working. My Chilton manual shows two separate circuits with two fan switches, two temp control units and two relays. Of course it is 1990 so yours could be different.

Re: 95 accord overheating/ fan issue
I would do a block test and cooling system pressure test before spending any money on parts. Was the coolant low? Maybe you need a new radiator cap or put some clamps on the overflow tube.

This seems to be a very common issue among Accords, or Hondas really. I see threads like these a lot. What gives? Is there one particular part that is the culprit most of the time. I’m having the same issue too. I’m starting out with the thermostat first since it’s pretty old anyways.

when you jumper the fan switch connector with the ignition on do the fans come on ?
if not its possible the fan timer/control unit crapped out.
This seems to be what I have. When I shot the wires to the timer module I get: Black -ok (less than 1 volt) .00 to .01 actually, Yellow/w 11.63 v, Black/y 12.05 v, Yellow 11.63 v, Green 11.63 v, Black/y 12.00 v, White 12.13 v, White/grn 11.25 v. My first thought was that this was close enough to battery voltage to prob be ok. But it seems that this is not so?? Has anyone actually encountered a bad fan timer module that was consistent with this? I did have voltage across the Thermo B switch connector at the radiator outlet. Haven't checked for voltage at Thermo A switch connector. Replaced Thermo A switch and radiator. Checked relays by swapping with known working units. When I ground the green wire from the timer module the fans do not come on. Perusing the many posts on this subject I have found no definitive failure of the timer module. Fans work if run direct off battery. I hooked it up to a scan tool to check for proper ECM coolant temp sensor operation and found no issues - can I assume that something should show up here if the ECM coolant temp sensor is operating out of range? I checked Thermo B switch resistance at operating temp and could not get conductivity. So are both switches failing + the module possible?
