95 accord help my jobs on the line!
ok so i work at a automotive shop and got this 95 four door accord automatic 2.7 vehicle. so it came in for a battery check i checked the battery and it came out good. so i would turn the key and i would not get no start at all the starter would not turn. so i banged on the starter and boom the car started. ok so i told the owner that he needed a starter. ok so i replace it with a new starter install it and going to turn the key and i get no start. i have power to the starter and everything comes on but i cant get it to start. ok so i think that the starter that they sent me was bad so i ask for a new one. they send me a new one and i install it and nothing no start. now when i install the old starter that was in the car i get it to start . so i check all the connections and they are all installed and in the right place. so i want to know if i can run it direct to start because i think that there might be a splice in the wire that go's to the solenoid. or is there something that i might have did wrong?
also it has a problem with the gauge cluster because it does not read the right speed. when i got the car to turn on the needle jumps all the way up and stays at 20 mph so is the cars speed sensor bad or the sensor that reads the speed that is connected to the trans is bad or does he need a new gauge cluster?

I suggest you to check the wiring again, wires 50/15/30 from the key, and check them at the starter as well.
There must be something there, and i doubt that anything related with the cluster is affecting it, even the VSS shouldn't affect the car when starting.
edit: don't just check voltage, check for amparage as well.

im don't know about if they sent the right starters i thought that they would be the same but i ill check tomorrow on the starters thanks. also i didn't check about the voltage drop or what readings im getting. but can i run a separate wire to the starter from the ignition because i think that the wire has a kink in it thats why the starter wont work at all. the only way i got it to turn on with the new starter was by bypassing it with a screw driver. but i didn't know that they had two different starters for the accords 2.2 and 2,7 also any ideas on the gauge cluster and whys it not reading the right speed . it stays at 20 could it be that the speed sensor in the trans is bad. or does he need a new gauge cluster. also how hard is it to change the speed sensor in the trans? sorry for asking all these question

if you reinstalled the old starter and car started , i would have to say that the issue is with the starters that you are getting .........if it was a wiring issue it would not start with the old starter as well...........
i am assuming you are installing non-factory starters?? tell the parts people to double chk the starter for pro[per application...... AT... 5 SP..

Cluster
If there is no corresponding "Check Engine" lamp lighting up, you can most likely forget about the Vehicle Speed Sensor. It affects the ECM too.
Most likely you've a defective cluster on your hands.
Starter
The starter for the 2.7 is unique to the v6 and is NOT interchangeable with the L4 version.
Make sure there is no damage to the engine ground cable, damaged it can effect starter operation.
Put a 12v test lamp on the starter solenoid exciter wire and try starting the car. If the lamp lights, but the starter doesn't respond - bad starter.
If it doesn't light, either it's the Ignition switch (column mounted) or the Neutral Safety Switch mounted to the shifter mechanism.

Re: 95 accord help my jobs on the line!
after working the commercial counter at a parts store- trust me, bad starters can come in batches.
we had a run of bad starters for auto nissan maximas.. for awhile i would bench test the new ones before they went out just to insure they wouldn't come back.
also, make sure they sent right starter to begin with, the sales people arent in the garage wrenching with you, they are just going by what the inventory computer tells them. I found A TON of stuff that was off in our company's system while i was there.

im with P on this one. i also think its the ignition switch. common problem with hondas. wiggle the key around in the ignition with the new starter and see if it starts

As stated, make sure you are recieving power at the starter solenoid while cranking. If not, make sure there isn't a starter interupt piece of crap installed. Obviously, also as stated, good connections from the battery are essential, both from negative to body ground and from positive to the starter and fuse box.
If your job is on the line, what did you do leading up to this point to be in questionable standing with the boss?
Maybe tell him you have enrolled in a night class at a community college...
