94 Honda Accord - IACV Issues
Hello all,
I have an issue with my 94 Accord's IACV. It currently has 164k miles on it.
When I drive for usually 30 minutes, my car's idle becomes unstable and often I have to switch into neutral position for the idle to fix itself and not idle out.
Me and my dad have been going back and forth about it being the IACV or the Solenoids. I suspect its the IACV or the TCU. Upon inspecting the IACV, it had loc-tite on it one of the valves (this is where I suspect the main culprit is the IACV). I purchased this car as-is and this is the main issue with it. Other than that, the rest is the body of the car which can easily be taken care of.
Thanks for reading and Helping!

IACV contols idle speed, but if you have a fluctuating idle it most likely is the FITV that needs to be inspected.
Click on the ACCORD FAQ at the top of the page.
Scroll down and look for the link on how to clean and adjust the IACV/FITV.
More than likely the FITV needs a slight adjustment and the hunting idle will go away.

I'll have to take it apart tomorrow and take a picture of it. If not tomorrow, then Tuesday or Wednesday (my days off from work). I'm quite new to maintaining this car on my own mechanically, but when my dad took it apart (either the IACV for the FICV) he mentioned on one of the valves to adjust it had loctite on it. It was probably due to the previous dumbass owners who were looking for a quick fix.

If he meant the threads of the bolts securing the fitv to the throttle body had loctite on it, that's kinda normal, since I've done that to make sure that the bolts for the fitv on my h22 don't back off, which has happened. If i try to tighten them down too much it will actually crack the fitv, which has happened one time.
However, if he really does mean the valve on the inside of the iacv has loctite on it, which honestly, I don't think he means that, then just replace it and be done with it. And remember in the future that other than for spraying some carb cleaner on the outside metal filter of the iacv to clean the carbon deposits off it it, you never ever try to service the inside of the iacv. It just doesn't happen.
