'93 Accord Oil Change
OK I've changed my oil hundreds of times, and on the air filter box it says 3.7 quarts with filter. So I put in 4 whole quarts and it never is at the second hole in the dipstick, anyone else notice they have to put in more than it says? OR is my car odd? Also I was down in Florida and took my car to a dealer down there to get the oil changed, and they changed it so I checked it and it was about a half an inch OVER the second dot, when I went to the guy he said that's where it's supposed to be, they measure it exactly etc etc etc. So with these things in mind, who's right? Do I go by the dipstick? Or do I go by the quantity (i.e. just do 4 quarts and that's that?)

Nope that's what came with the car, although it had 36K on it when I got it but how do you loose a dipstick?
I guess my real question is how much do you guys put in when you change ur oil?

I always put in an even 4 quarts. It puts it just a tiny bit above the 2nd dot, but I'm not gonna worry about that small amount. Never had a prob

Re: '93 Accord Oil Change (briq4)
on my 94 ex(f22b1 vtec) i put in 4.25 quarts with a small can(not sure about how many onces) of BG MOA(engine oil treatment). my oil is exactly at the top dot on the dip stick. i usually put the 4-4.25 quarts of 5w-30 in and run the car for like 2 min to fill the oil filter with oil, then shut if off and check the dipstick and then i add more as needed. just remember that you turn on your car for the first time after putting in new oil so the oil filter can be filled up.
that is all.
that is all.

Re: '93 Accord Oil Change (smokin rubber)
My non-VTEC F22A6 took 4.0 quarts every 3,000 miles for 135,000 miles. Never burned a teaspoon of oil 10 years.

i work at jiffy lube also. the reason you all have different levels is that different oil filters have different capacities. for example, the mileguard and fram filters (3593A) hold a little more than a quarter quart. the capacity honda gives you is for the oil pan capacity, not including the filter. fill the engine w/ oil, start the car, then the oil will fill the filter. depending on the capacity of the oil filter, it will take a certain amount more oil than recommended.

I just fill it until it pours out the top. I figure if I can do this with my radiator, why not my oil. Besides, you can never have too much lubrication.
On a side note, I would go by the dipstick.

Re: '93 Accord Oil Change (Razor)
I heard too much is no good either. Well I did check the manual finally and it says 3.7 w/o filter and 4 with. Odd that the sticker on the air filter box didn't have it as 4 given Honda recommends changing the filter with every oil change, however, I think that 7,500 miles is way too long between changes.
So do you guys change the filter every oil change? I do and I use the Honda filters. Too much?
