noobie.... laugh at me
hey guyz whats up.... obviously i'm a newbie, but i was hoping you could help me out.
currently i have a 74 ford maverick 4 door that is more of a "hot rod" and i'm looking for a vehicle more as a daily driver. i have owned a honda before, and i am considering looking for another one. a couple problems though, i cannot afford a new one... in fact my budget is probably limited to something in the range of $1500.... i also need something that will be way cheap on insurance... i didn't realize it but my license was suspended for the past 8 months due to excessive points.... *10 points one week before i turned 21*
is there maybe a certain year/model of honda that i should look for? being more of a "hotrodder" i still want to do some boltons... cai/lower/header/custom exhaust but not to much.... something that i can call "mine" yet still be drivable all year long.
thanks
jason

ok. you asked for it. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAhAHAHAHAHHAHAhAHAHA. ok. enuff of that. I strongly suggest 89 accord LXI, which seems to have won the bullet proof award in this forum. Those model accords are known for their tremendous reliability and drivability. They have pretty good aftermarket availabilities too. For 1500, you should be able to find one but it aint gonna be easy. If you do, get one and be happy.

Your screwed.. theres no way you can obtain any vehicle that will be "hotrod". I suggest taking the bus and saving up your money.

Re: noobie.... laugh at me (SlowAssAccord)
umm....for 1500$ and cheap insurance i'd suggest a 2nd gen accord (82-85 i believe). I have an 85 honda that is great. It's an LX so it has a/c and all the options on it and it's pretty quick because it's light. the only thing is that it's carberated and there aren't really upgrades for it. Your insurance will be low though. I think i paid 30$ a month when i was 16 for it. I also had an 89lx and like people say, those cars are great. i had the carberated Lx instead of the LXi, but it was still a great car, but again, no bolt ons. Bolt ons will start at 1990 which is 4th gen. You will be paying higher in insurance. I have a 91 and my insurance is around 70-80 a month. You won't find any worth having for 1500$ though. I got mine for 3500$ which was a great deal and the car will last for a long time.
your best bet is around an 85 for insurance and cost.

Do I even need to say it? LOL . Yes, a 3rd gen Accord (86-89) is what I would recommend. You can usually find some good ones for $1500 and under on www.autotrader.com (when you search put in a longer distance if you can, you get alot more results), or sometimes on ebay if you can find one in your area. Not as much aftermarket stuff for 3rd gens, but still enough. I/H/E, adj. cam gear, cam regrind, injectors (or Weber if you get carb'd), 2nd gen Prelude or 1st gen Teg trans swap, lightweight flywheel, are a few of the things you can do to make it quicker. Alot of other custom stuff you can do as well. Honestly though, my LX-i even in it's stock form, isn't that bad at all because it doesn't weigh all that much. Top of the line LX-i is just barely over 2600. It's plenty quick for me to be happy. Of the 3rd gens, 88-89 LX-i/SE-i had the most hp and torque (don't laugh, it's not as bad as it sounds...120 hp @ 5800, 122 ft. lbs torque @ 4000). Reliability, durability, and the holy-****-this-thing-runs-perfect-foreverness: they go without saying. A20A1/A20A3 engines are pretty much indestructable.
If you can find an SE-i, grab it. Those are sweet! Leather, 4 wheel discs, bronze tint, special wheels, cupholders, Bose stereo w/controls on steering wheel, center armrest, and Brittney Blue...MmmMmm, and a few other cool colors too. Plus they are kinda rare and you don't see too many of them around

I suggest investing in a drivers school of some sort............
how absolutely stupid can you be to get 10 points against your liscense and not know it was suspended?

I've not seen a decent 3rd or 4th (besides mine ) gen worth buying in years. They are all old and crusty. Unless you want to restore something, I guess most 5th gens are still in good shape, but unless you buy from someone you know you can never know what kind of hell a used car has been through.

the state of colorado DOES NOT have to notify you. i looked on the states website and according to that they were supposed to send me a letter notifying me, however i drove from longmont to englewood to fort collins and back to longmont and they apparently, at least that is what these people kept telling me, DO NOT have to notify me.... makes sense to me, they just made 40 bux off me.
as far as driving classes or something go, i did take on to keep a 4th ticket for wreckless driving completely off my record *small town, potatoe fields, ex squad car, half hour of spinning = wreckless driving *
you can think i'm a bad driver if you want and i wont stop you. i feel i am not one *hey who doesn't * 2 of mine were for speeding/ one was on one of the most remote backroads in my area and i was only doing 15 over/ the other was at 2am as i was going to work and absolutely nobody was around. i wont even go into that cuz i despise that town with a passion.
i will take full responsibility for my ticket of 80 in a 55. on I-25 at 3am.. i was going the flow of traffic, but i was right behind and next to 2 semi trucks with full loads... i being a truck driver myself but on a smaller scale have full respect and utter FEAR of semis so i waited till i could squeeze it then i punched it on my used to own 99 cougar v6. i was actually doing 95 when i did that but the cop was alright.
anyway that is that thanks for listening and i'm still checking on cars

you only have $1500 dollars toward the new car but then you can afford to do all of the upgrades/bolt-ons etc... I dont get it why not just spend that money on the car, or save for a while longer and get a better car..
