91 accord blower motor replacement
I've followwed the haynes manual steps for removing the blower motor housing, but there doesn't seem to be enough clearance to remove it. it's loose, but I can't get it out. do I need to remove the dash? Or remove the a/c evaporator? or what? THANKS!

Re: 91 accord blower motor replacement (bill-71SS)
Thank you so much for responding!
OK, I did loosen those bolts yesterday and pull the right side of the dash ot a bit. Still no luck. There is a metal bracket just to the right of where the glove-box was. That seems to be causing the most resistance, but I cannot get a wrench on any of the three nuts holding it on. these are four-side rather than hex nuts, for whatever that is worth.
Is it better to try to bring the top edge of the housing away from its bolts first, or the bottom? I've tried both without success.
Thanks again.....

bill told you correctly. You may hear the dash crack when pulling out on the dash. I have done this on numerous occasions....sounds bad, but you will not see any damage....believe me. Roll the bottom out towards you disconnect the wiring on the right side. Try not to damage the squirrel cages when removing them from the motor. I have on occasion broken them....they can be difficult to remove. gl...JP

ECU and TCU?
Anyway, I did get it out, thanks for the suggestions! There was a bracket behind those two bolts on the right hand side that had to come out first.
Now, I suspect there might be a problem with the blower motor resistor. The motor work and gets 12v when the switch is fully on. Nothing when on the lower settings. Another funny thing is that it didn't work at all before I took it all apart....
Suggestions?
THanks!
John

Could be a bad blower resister.

Isn't that what I last said?
I'm still curious about ECU and TCU........

I was agreeing with you, could be a bad switch too though.

Gotcha.

You said I should peel back the carpet and remove ECU and TCU. I don't know what those are.
I also misunderstood your sig before. I thought someone made that comment about spewing coffee on their keyboard about what you said about ECU and TCU. I couldn't see what was so funny.
All in all, it doesn't matter. I've got everything working and back together. Don't really know what was the matter, maybe a loose connection. All I did was take everything apart and put it back together and now it works. SCARY.
Thanks to the people who gave me tips at the beginning of this thread! You really helped me get through, and I was really frustrated getting that housing out at one point.......

Engine and transmission control units. Taking them out makes getting the blower box in and out alot easier.
