89 Honda Accord Stalls Due to AC
Perhaps someone else has had this problem. I have an 89 Honda Accord LX with very low mileage (66,000). One day, driving down the highway, the engine just stalled. It started to stall on acceleration, the engine would stall and turn off.
I had a problem with my AC, where some motor inside would not stop. This problem apparently disintegrated whatever holds the free on. I had this replaced. My ac was fixed.
The mechanic turned the idle up for some reason to compensate somehow for this problem with a motor not turning off in the AC system. It now idles VERY rough
My problem with stalling got worse. If I accelerated on an incline, the engine would die (stall out). I had to put one foot on brake, and press gas to get the car to move again.
Two mechanics say "there is a problem with the AC" which somehow stalls my car.
To me it feels as though it were a fuel pump or something where gas is not getting to engine. I had my carburator cleaned out, I had new fuel filters put in. We replaced the Air filter.
Replacing the Air filter made the car stall even more.
Is ANYONE familiar with the AC motor not turning off, and also some how making the car stall?
Two mechanics have agreed this is the problem. They have not figured out how to fix it. (Two mechanics do not know one another). one does not want to touch it. The other one is frustrated.

Re: 89 Honda Accord Stalls Due to AC (japentz)
if the compressor isnt turning off, then id start by looking at the wiring for it... seems you have a short to power or short to ground... depending on how its setup.
this would explain your stalling... the ac pulley is an extra load on the motor...
