Hey all,

I did a search on K&N and only posts about prices come up or which is better, Apexi, K&N or HKS. Anyhow, I've decided to replace my stock air fillter with a K&N OEM replacement so I can clean it and not have to keep buying filters.

Since it supposedly has a higher flow than a OEM filter, do I need to change anything else? Although it'd be cool to get a new exhaust system and all, I'm not going to do that.

Would the chip handle the increased O2 flow and so on and so forth?

Any advice appreciated.

does flow a tad better with the air box on but nothing you can feel. I have the OEM k&n filter aswell, but i just removed my air box and added some wires over the stock airbox lid. So the filter will not come out. in other words its a poor mans cai.. this its just temp. until i save up for a cai

That's interesting. I used to have a Honda Hawk motorcycle and people would do mods like yours to their stock airbox too. Actually, they would make huge holes in the plastic lid and put a K&N stock replacement filter.

So I guess since the flow improvement is minimal, you didn't have to change your header and pipes or any other internal changes?

Just remember to reset your ECU after replacing the filter.

Just disconnect the battery for 10 mins and then re-connect it. Let the engine warm up and idle for a little bit.....

you will not need to change anything...

you won't gain much in terms of power either, but reusability is a definite benefit. i can get you that K&N for $40 plus ship and tax.

what kind of honda do you drive?

the quickest/easiest way to reset the ECU is to disconnect the NEG lead of the battery cable, put it back. Start the car(use as least power as possible, meaning turning off your million watt bass system, a/c, headlight,etc) let the car idle without stepping on the gas panel for 5-10 min.

the k&N filter probably will increase air flow but it's not like you are growing a tornado inside your car, so in other words, you don't have to change a thing.

you are buying a direct drop in or OEM spec replacement not a cone style intake filter for filter on a stick intake.

apex'i doesn't even makes a direct drop in filter for 6th gen accord, so is HKS.

sidenote:

Apex'i outperform k&N/AEM's filter both in filtering effectiness and air flow, too bad it's cannot be clean(recharge)/ reuse and it's pretty expensive.

HKS' filter element opens up higher rate of air flow compare to K&N but the downside is the filter cannot filter out dirt and dust very well. Oh yeah, it cannot be clean according to hks' instruction. I used to have hks SMF aka green mushroom filter for my legend, i wouldn't recommend using it for cai.

You can just do the ebay air intake with a K&N cone filter and you'll have better results, but its up to what you want to spend. Thats the cheapest and most efficient route for an air intake IMO

good post on resetting the ecu, iam7head. you dont need to disconnect the battery for 10 min, all u need to do is break the circuit that the ecu is on. alternatively u can just disconnect the ecu. make sure u dont touch the gas or turn on any electrical appliances for the first 5-10 after starting your car again.

Technically I believe you only have to pull the ECU fuse, it resets the codes I would assume it resets everything lol!

Yeah I hacked the hell out of my intake and airscoop with a sawzaw. Make sure you take off the resignator too.

Might help gas mileage a little bit more...speaking of I got about 3-5 better mileage when I did all that! I don't care what anyone says, I've ridden with plenty of $200 intakes and I'm convinced mine breathes and sounds just as good if not better...not to mention it didn't cost me a dime.

Your 2000 will be slightly different than mine, but I'm sure you can figure it out.
