Default 88 Accord LXi specs

Hey guys,

I am considering buying a 88 Accord LXi racecar (hatchback if it matters), but finding specs and info on cars pre-1990 is a bit hard to come by. Can anybody fill me in on the details of the car? Like what model engine, displacement, hp, torque, suspension type, stock curb weight, wheel size, brake rotor size and type, etc.

thanks,
Evan

Well, I've searched for specs on my own car as well as others' in the past and found these two sites to be fairly helpful...

From Edmunds.com (a history of the generations of Accords)
http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/gener...9/article.html

And from Autos.MSN (this is includes some engine specs such as hp, torque, displacement, etc.)
http://autos.msn.com/vip/usedsingley...d=1292&src=vip
Click on "Specifications & Warranties" and "Engines and Fuel Economy" to find what you need.

I hope this helps!
Alex.

88 LX-i has an A20A3 engine ( for reliability), which is a 2.0L SOHC 12 valve 1955cc engine, 9.3:1 compression ratio, 120 hp @ 5800 RPM's and 122 ft. lbs torque @ 4000 RPM's. Not sure of the stock weight of the hatch in particular, but the LX-i's are right around 2500-2600, and wheels are 14 inch with +40mm offset and 4x100 bolt pattern. I have no idea just how big the brake rotors are, but of the 3rd gens (86-89), the 88-89 LX-i/SE-i had the largest rotors, and they are rotor-over-hub design. You can also swap the rear discs from the SE-i if you don't like the drums on the LX-i. Suspension is a 4 wheel independant double wishbone type, with variable assist rack & pinion steering (very crisp and nimble!)

Did I miss anything? You may want to check out the Motor Trend review for the 3g Accord which I have on my website

Nope, no 4 wheel drive tranny for 3rd gen, or any Accord I believe (that would be kinda cool though). If I remember correctly though you can get a LSD for it.

You are in luck for the carbon fiber hoods though. We just had a groupbuy on these on our website (www.3geez.com). This, however, is the only place that has made a CF hood for a 3g, so you won't find it anywhere else.

Here's the original thread http://www.3geez.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6456

"Site" is the username of the guy that put the whole thing together, so you may want to contact him for more info.

great info, thanks guys! Just what I was looking for.

I know there is an LSD available for the car, as the one I am looking at has one. It is a phantom grip model.

rotor over hub design...is that the standard take brake caliper off, rotor slides off. or is it one of the more PITA designs where you have to take stuff apart to get to the rotor?

It's the standard design-take off the caliper and the rotor slides off. Many people would agree that the phantom grip is not very good by design. I've researched it. Look into getting a Quaife if they even make one for the 3rd gens...Also look into the b18c swap for the 3rd gens. The most power your gonna make without going Forced Induction.
