6th Gen Accord Fuel Pipe Leak - Need repair advice
Hi Everyone,
First post here, and the situation is dire... well sort of dire.
I mean, the car's still working... but it could explode easily - so I'll say dire.
Anyway, I drive a 2002 Accord LX 4-door and I have a very slow leak in one of my fuel pipes due to corrosion. I think it's in the feed line pipe since that pipe is the most wet with gas, but it could also be in a small patch of the return line pipe that's leaking down onto the feed line pipe since the return line pipe is above it at the leaking portion (the very rear section of the pipe). It's a drip about every 10-20 seconds when running and for a short time afterwards.
I've priced out the parts from HondaPartsNow for the repair for replacing both lines and the associated clips and hardware, and it looks to be roughly $200 for parts (~$300 if you go with the listed 'Honda' price).
My question to the forum is - what are some of the risks/concerns with doing this repair myself? Would it be much wiser to take it to a repair shop? If so, how long should a repair like this take (so I can see if the repair shop is trying to screw me over).
Also, why does the repair manual say that I have to replace the fuel pump and fuel filter if the contact area of the fuel pipe is rusty? I am assuming it's because particulates could be in the system, but is there any other reason?
I have included some pictures:
