Is 4.4L of engine oil too much for Honda Accord 2000 LX sedan?
Hi,
I just changed my engine oil yesterday on a Honda 2000 LX. It was my first time to do it myself.
I had the full bucket of the oil (4.4L) and my impression was that I only need 3 to 4 quarts of it. So after draining the old stuff, I put about 3 quarters of the whole bucket. But when I tested the oil level with the dipstick, the level was always below the minimum mark (My car was still on a ramp and I total forgot about that). So I poured the whole bucket of oil (4.4 L) in the engine.
Today, I realized that I've made a mistake and was ready to drain some oil. But when I put my car in a level ground and tested the oil level, the level was just in the middle of the min/max marks.
I have no prior experience of oil change and have no idea how much approximately I should put in. Is 4.4 L of engine oil too much? Would that level do anything harm to the engine? Would appreciate any advise. Thanks.

Ok, are you talking about 4.4 quarts, or 4.4 liters? The engine should take about 4.5 quarts. Don't know what that would amount to in liters. 4.4 liters would be way more than 4.4 quarts???? If the dipstick is reading the correct amount, you should be ok.

I don't think that 0.1qt over will hurt anything. Start your car let it idle for a minute then shut it down. Let it sit for a minute and check the oil dip stick as long as your not way over the max line your good to go!
4.4L = 4.6qt
Spec sheet calls for 4.3L or 4.5 us qt (3.8 imp qt) with new filter.

Thanks for all the help. I think I should be OK and now I know how much roughly I should fill next time I change the oil.
