3.0 V6 vtec engine swap to a VW transaxle sand rail ecu questions
I want to put a Honda 3.0 V6 vtec engine on my tube frame sand rail. The VW engines are crap at best and getting very $$$ to build. The 3.0 V6 is common in accords and Kennedy Engeering makes adapters to bolt the V6 right to a VW transaxle. I need help as to what ecu and chip or programmer to use to make this engine work. I am new to Honda vtec and do know know much about the specific wiring used in these engines. I am a tech with experience on lots of cars, but new to reprogramming. Any ideas about a cheap way to wire and power an ecu to make this work. I will be looking for a 97-2002 accord V6... I see that guys use OBD-0 ecu's to power newer engines and then chip them with aftermarket stuff. Why not use the newer stuff?

Well your main concern is there's the immobilizer chip in that setup. I'm not sure of many ways to get around it other than either
- disabling the immobilizer by soldering around in the ECU
- somehow getting it programmed based off the original VIN
I'd take a look at the Accord FAQ and see if any of the 6th gen stuff will help.
It's possible you can down-convert to OBDI and run a chipped ECU with that setup. I wish I could be more of a help but I'm mostly 5th gens.

The immobilizer isn't based off the VIN. To make a key, you need a lock cylinder and key sensor, all assorted wiring, and an OBDII port. Honda can program the ECU to accept the key. A lot of people think these keys are made for the car, but only the mechanical part is. The chip part is static, and the car is taught to accept the chip in the key. Anyway, K pro would be easier

Re: (TheMuffinMan)
I have looked at MegaSquirt systems for years. I saw where they sell a unit to control a vtec relay. The good news is that for about $700 you can have a stand alone ECU.
Thanks for all the info.

Re: 3.0 V6 vtec engine swap to a VW transaxle sand rail ecu questions (Professor28)
personally I would SKIP the 3.0L and go for something with a lot more low end torque maybe a 3.2L (J32) from a TL/CL car
also don't even bother with a c27 as those things are cast iron head and block which makes them heavy and they are pretty low on output as well
why not just take the immobilizer and install it? pretty simple and effective anti theft device as no one would expect it on that thing
