Anyone have a write on how to adjust the ignition timing on 2001 Honda accord 4 cylinder. I could not get the distributer to turn counter clock wise.
Thanks

Re: 2001 accord ingtion timing
The verdict is in. No compression what so ever in cylinder #3. More than likely burn valve. Im in Sacramento California, anyone know where I can get cheap dismantlers swap.
Thanks

Re: 2001 accord ingtion timing
I ordered a remanufactured head for my 99 ex for like 350 when I had a burnt valve. That included 2 day shipping and return shipping. I think I got it from national cylinder head exchange. They don't charge for the core unless you take too long to send the old one in.

There is Japan Engine in San Leandro that sells low mileage engines and rebuilt heads. I have used them for low mileage transmissions with no problems so far.

Re: 2001 accord ingtion timing
Just got done tearing off the cylinder head last night. Cylinder #3 exhaust valve was jack, there goes the compression. This has to be the worst head Ive taking off, all valves are filthy covered in carbon build up on them. Even the top of the piston head had major residue of carbon. I have never seen this before, its it normal. How do I clean the top of the pistons?
Thanks.
HSP Sunday everyone.

I hope you marked the old belt/gears when you took it off?
Get #3 to the top. a little cleaner and a "scuff pad" will be fine. Of course put rags into/over and coolant or oil passages. You don't need "perfection", knock off the big chunks and call it a day. Put #1 back to TDC or where it was when the belt was taken off.......done.

Carbon is off. Machine shop gave me four tapered springs in a bag. Guy said " tapered side goes up, thats all he said. "Not sure where and how to installe them? Thanks

Re: 2001 accord ingtion timing
Thanks for getting back at me. The valve laches never made it to the machine shop, all springs and keepers are still intact while the cylinder head was sent off to the machine shop. When I pick up the head, they gave me a plastic bag with circle cylinder guides ( two of them) and the four springs.
I was online doing research and saw a couple utube vids of dudes doing the same job on a 2001 accord vetch, I mean identical. No tapered springs were seen or mentioned.
Im gonna walk out in in a reputable Honda dealer parts store, and ask them what, where and how this things get assemble. Maybe they can help me.
Also, I think Im gonna stop by the machine shope and ask the same.
I hate bother other folks, but Im in a pickle and have a deadline to meet.
Thaks again,
I took picks of the four springs, IM your ur numer, if you think is helps.

Re: 2001 accord ingtion timing
Just got back from Honda dealer parts, counter person new what they were just by looking at it as I held them in my hand. " Lost Motion ASM (springs).
Already hit the search bar and there is a sufficient amount of right up here in Honda tech forums.
I will post up later.
Thanks

Go to Majestic Honda, or other dealer sites that have a proper parts section and look up your car via make/model or VIN. Then look up the parts for the diagrams.

Re: 2001 accord ingtion timing
This is a done deal, just spent a good 10 days doing job. Had a burnt exhaust valve, figured out the tapered springs (loss motion).
Things left to do? clean out out, set ignition & base ignition & done.

Re: 2001 accord ingtion timing
Im back. My ignition timing is off, cant get the dizzy to rotate. The red dot is way off from the pointer. So I am right back where I started. I just got done doing timing belt and adjust the valves, so I know my marks are dead on.
Thanks

Re: 2001 accord ingtion timing
Take valve cover off and make sure the cam lobes are pointing away from one another on cyl #1 at TDC... The distributor is non adjustable and goes on one way so pay attention when installing it you will notice it will slide right into place if aligned correctly.. It will shift and draw to one side if installed incorrectly, not to mention it may break off one of the two teeth on the distributor shaft that aligns in cam..

Re: 2001 accord ingtion timing
I would double double check my cam and crank marks. Sounds like you are off. Make sure the horizontal cam marks are dead even with the surface of the head, and up...is pointing up. Also, make sure crank pulley hasnt moved...possibly the key slipped or broke.
