CG6 - F23a4 Stalls when hot
So my 02 accord (CG6) with 4 pot vtec f23a4 stalls after It gets hot. I can sit through rush hour traffic and its ok until about an hour down the road. The first time it happened on I-70 towards Vail. I was behind a Bugatti veyron and trying to keep up (as little as I could) and get a pict of it. any way when the thing goes its always the same.
It just looses power. No CEL no nothing, it feels like im out of gas. Totally unresponsive. So I pulled over on the next incline and checked everything, it cranked over but wouldn't start, I listened for my fuel pump when switching from ac to ON and could hear it (its a high flow pump for a turbo that I had on it). So my initial reaction was that is electrical problem on the ignition side. Either way I let it sit, called a tow in and after I got off the phone with them I turned it over again and it fired right up (30-40 mins). Thought hmmm ok maybe I was low on gas, filled it up all was fine for two weeks then it happened again. Both times I had to wait about 30-40 mins to let it cool so it is very heat related.
I checked the distributor cap and it definitely looks like it has a 155k miles on it but it still looked good. I checked the relay for the fuel pump and the solder joint was very worn it looked way too thin. So I replaced it, all was peaches and creme until it happened again on my way to boulder.
This time I didn't have to wait 30-40 mins, I literally pulled over and within 3-5 mins of stalling out it fired up. I pushed my car up a local canyon to get it hot and try to replicate the problem and did. So it is consistently cutting out when it gets hot.
I want this fixed, because sooner or later whatever is wonky will fail entirely
So I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I am starting to look at my ignition control modual with more skepticism but I really dont want to just replace part after part not knowing what is causing a problem. So I turn to my fellow gear heads. I am reaching out on my first post here. Help!
