Here are more details about the locked driver door problem:
- the driver door lock can be locked/unlocked either with the key or with the remote (the lock **** moves up/down and you can hear the switch activating), but the door cannot be opened.
- neither the outside door handle or the inside door handle can open the door when the door lock is in the unlocked position.
- the outside door handle feels rather loose when lifting it up when trying to open the door...nothing seems to catch.
- the inside door handle is moving the horizontal rod inside the door that is connected to the lock switch assy --- can hear/feel it moving inside the door.
- tried lifting the outside door handle up (open position) and opening the inside door handle at the same time and giving the 'ol 1-2 push from the inside...no luck in getting the door open.
- removed the door lock fuse in the right passenger fusebox thinking the door lock might fail to the open position with loss of power...still no luck.

So, the assumption now is some part on the door lock actuator is broke causing the latch mechanism not to release. With the door locked closed it doesn't seem possible to remove the interior door panel since the panel dovetails into the door jam and has those plastic pushpins to hold it in place.

Is the only option to cut a hole in the interior panel near the actuator assy? Also, does anyone know if there is a recall item or TSB on this problem? For as many posts that appear here related to door lock problems...Honda should be taking responsibility for fixing a crappy design!

Any help would be appreciated! As others have mentioned in various forums here...it gets old having to crawl into the driver's seat from the passenger side!

Anyone ever had to drill out a hole in their door panel to access/remove/replace the door lock actuator? Thinking about taking off the passenger door panel to determine exactly the location of the actuator so we can do minimal damage to the driver door panel. Note: guessing it is the actuator that is bad or something that is connected to the actuator that is broke. Door is still locked "closed"...cannot open it.

You can take off the panel, Just play around with it, some of the clips may break but you don't have to drill the panel. The latch is bad. You will need a new latch. After you get the panel off, remove th Glass then remove the rear window track. Remove the lock actuator next. remove the white placstic cover and use a mirror and flashlight to see the side of the latch facing away from you (towards the left of the vehicle) You should be able to see part way inside the latch...there should be a dowel inside there push it down to release the door. Now replace the latch.

Thanks "fiveten" for the help! Finally got the driver door panel partially disconnected. Had to remove the backseat plastic quarter panel in order to gain better access to the vertical side of the door panel and then had to remove the driver door light lense cover and dremel out the plastic rectangular box that housed the light bulb in order to gain access to the lower panel push pins. Once the lower push pins were popped out the rest of the door panel broke free --- the only part of the panel that couldn't be removed was the very front of the door panel under the sideview mirror. There is actually a pushpin that is covered with the door being closed that is 'not' accessible --- this was verified by removing the door panel on the passenger door.

With the driver door panel partially bent out, the door actuator was removed by unscrewing the 3 small brass screws that held the plastic actuator in place. Also removed all of the electrical connectors to the actuator. Then removed the metal vertical window guide that blocked access to the door latch by removing the one large bolt that held the guide in place --- did not have to move or remove the window. Next, removed the two brass screws that held the plastic door latch cover in place. Tried moving the handle rod that is connected to the door latch up and down with no luck of opening the door -- the mechanical latch is moving up & down. It definitely feels different than when the same movement is done to the passenger door handle rod. The passenger door handle rod seems to have a little bit of resistance (like compressing a light spring) to it as it travels to the bottom to release the latch, whereas the driver door does not.

Now that the driver door latch is accessible...tried to locate the pin you mentioned. Used a mirror and found a very small diameter brass looking pin. Tried to push the pin looking object in with a small pick-like tool ---- couldn't get it to budge. See the enclosed pic of the latch as it is reflected in the mirror. Is this the pin you were talking about? Once the pin is pushed should the door be able to be pushed open from inside the car? If the pin doesn't move -- I guess the next step is to start drilling out the latch mechanism...unless you have any other ideas.

+1 (2000 Accord V6 coupe) I have the same problem, door will not open. I have been able to access the door by pealing back the leather panel and cutting an access hole in the plastic panel behind the leather cover. So when the repair is completed the leather panel will cover the hole.... BUT I have been drilling and nothing seems to be happening. I am ripping up that lock though. No luck yet...

I was thinking that if I could remove the rear seat side panel I could use a saws-all and cut the metal loop. But, i can not get the rear panel off ??? Can anyone help. I am FRUSTRATED.
