I need to check transmission fluid in my Honda Accord LX 1992 and don't know how to do it. It has automatic transmission. I also need to know what transimission fluid goes in there. I am having troubles with my car, after a while of driving it stops shifting goes to lower gears and eventually stops and won't move. The only thing that worked was reverse. When I shut it down for a few minutes it would drive again normally for a while, then do the same thing again. Basically after it gets hot it does not shift. I guess it might be low on transmission fluid, or any other ideas why it is doing that? cost of repair? The car has 232,000miles on it, just 2 months ago a distributor was changed and right after that the car had a problem transmitting driving from the shop but then it was fine. Thanks

The transmission dip stick is located on the front of the transmission ; look straight down from the distributor area.
Check the fluid level with the engine off.

The dip stick will give u some indication of how dirty is seems and level you're at but that doesn't tell u if it's bad. If U haven't change it before, I would get it drain out and put new fluid in.

I need to change mine next week. Where's the drain plug and where do I put the new oil in?
I know it's not from the dipstick area... I ain't that much of a dipsh1t... lmao
