Default 1999 accord lx SPEEDOMETER AND ODOMETER not working

okay this is a first for me in all of the years I have driven hondas.....

1999 accord lx 4 syl automatic..... 83k original miles. classic grandmother car. got it from my buddy whose grandmother drove it then moved to a nursing home... the car is a gem.

but......

last week i was driving and immediately noticed the speedometer and odometer just stopped working. it was not registering miles and the needle was stick at zero.

i immediately pulled over and grabbed the phone and searched the interwebs for this solution. i found a few things about fuses or bad speedo's or bad clusters etc..... i checked the fuses and then it seems to have started working again so i shrugged it off as nothing more than a fuse that needed to be reseated. i was wrong.... when i pulled away from the parking spot i turned of the cruise control and the speedo dropped to zero again and the odo stopped registering. when i turned the cruise back on it all went back to normal. basically i have a switch to my speedo and odo, which for some people might be a great problem but i want the car to register actual miles and plus im not a scumbag like that to cheat someone out of an honest car.

i want to fix this. would any of you guys have any ideas as to what the deal is with this car? to recap... the speedo and odo only work when the cruise control system is set to on... (not necessarily just while i am "cruising"). when i turn off cruise it all stops working.

thank you in advance!!!!

I had a similar issue with my 1990 accord. It turned out to be the VSS or vehicle speed sensor. On the CB7, the VSS was located on the very top of the tranny in a very hard to get to kind of place. The 98-02 engine bays are much more roomy than the 90-93s so you may have better access.
