1998 Honda Accord - Have to rev gas to start. Dies randomly
The car takes 8 or 9 tries to start and it helps if I rev the gas while starting. Then the car will die when slowing down or sometimes even when I'm going a constant 30mph. It will usually take a few tries to start back up. AC is off. Idle is at 900 RPM
OBD Codes
1)P1457 EVAP emission control system leak detected (I've had this code ever since replacing my gas cap with an offbrand - I believe its just a leaky gas cap
2)P1259 VTEC system malfunction
3)P0505 Idle Air control valve control circuit
4)P1456 EVAP emission control system leak detected (Leaky gas cap again)
5)P0420 Catalyst efficiency below threshold bank
6)P1381 Cylinder position sensor intermittent interuption
After searching I found some possible fixes, but I'm not sure where to start or what to clean/replace first.
1) ground leads and tighten up the ground points.
2) clean both the Throttle Plate / Body and the IACV (Idle Air Control valve 3) Main Relay
4) Ignition Switch
5) Dirty Sticking EGR valve (EGR port upgrade?)
6) check for vacuum leaks?
7) distributor cap 8
8) rotor button
9) 02 Sensor
10) Plugs + Plug wires
Appreciate any help with this. I'm not the greatest with cars and am wondering what to start with.

Try cleaning the throttle body/IACV first, it should improve the way your car acts when idling.
When was the last time you had the fuel filter and spark plugs changed?

I've never changed the fuel filter (I read the 98 accord filter (more of a strainer) was a nonserviceable part - meaning it didn't need to be changed).
I am changing the plugs today, and taking the IACV out for a good cleaning.

Leave the fuel filter alone....
You are going down the right path....tune up - not sure why you are not doing the cap and rotor and then inspect/test the wires?
Clean the valve, if the 0505 come back, further testing will be needed.
Check the oil level or change it if close to being due. (1259)
Have the alternator tested (1381).....I know sounds strange but trust me the alt can/will cause a 1381.
I'll leave the other codes for another time
