1997 Accord Air Conditioning Thermostat
I've been lurking on this forum for days now but can't seem to find what I'm looking for so I decided to register and ask directly. With the help of this forum I've discovered that I have a faulty A/C thermostat. What I can't seem to figure out is how to remove said thermostat from the evaporator. I'm really hoping step one isn't "Remove the evaporator". Thanks in advance guys and I hope to hear from somebody.....(anybody?)....soon.

I can get to the part that plugs into the pigtail, just not the part that goes into the evaporator. Whats at the other end? A bi-metal switch? What part of the thermostat usually goes bad?

It's highly unlikely your thermostat is bad. Either a leak in the system or the expansion valve being bad are normally the two most likely culprits.
And the thermostat sticks inside the evaporator and wraps around the inside of it. You can't get it out without taking out the evaporator.

Holmes, it's definitely the thermostat. Jumped the pigtail and engine idles up, condensor and radiator fans run and compressor engages. Rocky, that's not the evaporator on a 97 Accord and Honda refers to the part as "Thermostat, Air Conditioning".

Regardless of the diagram being perfect or not I see no way to remove and then reinstall a thermostat with an installed evaporator.
