1996 accord evaporator core question
Hello honda-tech, long time lurker and finally registered. This site has solved at least a dozen problems but I finally have a question to ask.
I'm trying to chase down a problem with my a/c leaking. Up to this point I have replaced all the o-rings in the engine bay all the way up to the evaporator core hoses at the firewall. Also replaced the drier. Checked the vacuum and the leak seemed to have slowed down but it is still there.
Today I removed the evaporator core so I could replace the o-rings between the core and the expansion valve and decided I needed a little advice before putting everything back together just to tear it apart again to replace the evaporator.
The styrofoam under the evaporator looks like it has been melted and there was green stuff on the outside of the o-rings on the expansion valve. My question is will the r134 melt the styrofoam because of a leak from the o-rings or is this a sign that my evaporator bad?
Will get pics up in a minute.

I have no idea what I'm looking at since the pic is almost microscopic in size.
Just replace the expansion valve and the orings and you should be good to go, provided you don't see the evaporator actually leaking. The expansion valve is usually the first thing to go bad in the system outside of a leaking issue.

you need to get a dye kit with the uv light to verily where the leak is coming from, the compressor oil being blown out probably ate the styrofoam, replace the O rings and put some charge in the system along with the dye to verify if it's coming from the evaporator

Thanks for the responses guys, sorry about the pics I don't know which code to copy and paste from my photo bucket. The pic is of the lower evaporator case and the melted foam insulator
Does anybody know where to get the foam insulator?

you are probably going to have to repair it with some spray expanding foam or something, unless you find one from a junkyard

Replaced the expansion valve and o-rings. Going to check the vacuum and refill the system later if it's good. Hopefully that does it cause it's going to start getting hot and 1 more summer without an a/c is not an option. Thanks for the help!
