Default 1996 2.7 V6 oil leak near oil filter/oil switch

I just noticed an oil leak that only occurs while my car is running and causes an oil drip about once a second. I already changed the oil pressure switch to be sure that was not it. While looking at the oil filter housing there is a plug just above the filter between the filter and the engine block. Initially the leak appeared toe be coming from there so I removed cleaned and reinstalled the plug using High Heat thread sealer which did not fix the problem. Subsequently, it seems the leak is coming from near the plug but not actually from the plug. It is very hard to see when I can only use a floor jack right now. I have also installed a new filter with an early oil change and this did not help. Has anyone had a similar issue and or have any ideas? Thanks in advance for any ideas..

BTW, I neglected to mention that the car has almost 170k on it.

I have done some research on my own and after looking at some schematics noticed there are some o-rings used to seal the tubes connecting the oil pump to the oil filter. Judging from the location of the leak and the fact that it is only happening when there is oil pressure this might be a likely suspect for the leak. A preliminary check reveals that the bolts on the mount will not be that easy to reach. Well, really only one if very difficult. Has anyone had a leak that turned out to be from these O-rings?

i did this to my own 1996 accord this summer, if u take the tire off and the oil filter (only for convinience) while it up in the air u should be able to get those 2 bolts out and u cant get that 3 one out because of the crankpulley if i remember right but u can back it out enough to pull baack the housing unit away from the block just enough to get out the old/get in the new gasket, the gasket is where the block meets the external housing, just as u were thinking

it will be hard to do with just a floor jack

So was it the housing unit that was causing your car to leak oil

I am bumping this thread because i just went though this on my 1996 2.7 accord. While searching this is one of the only forum posts that popped up so im going to put it here for other people. I did this with the car on ramps

There are 3 bolts attaching the oil filter adapter to the engine. 2 on top and one on the bottom. All 3 are hard to get to but the bottom one is easier than it seems.

The bottom bolt that is tucked in between the harmonic balancer and the oil filter adapter is easily removed by taking a standard 1/4 or 3/8" socket and wedging it in beside the balancer. once you jimmy it in place with your finger and get it over the head of the bolt then you can stick and extension on it and back the bolt all the way out. They will both be trapped there since there is not enough room to completely remove the socket and bolt yet.

Then you have to take the two upper bolts out. I started with the upper right one and it backed out really hard like there was lock tite on it. But eventually it came out. There is not enough room to completely remove the bolt because it hits the frame rail.

The other side is more tricky because i could not get a socket on it because of the frame rail so i had to use a boxed end wrench. It also backed out hard liek there was lock tite on it and the bolt will not come all the way out.

After both top bolts are loose you can pull the oil filter adapter back from the engine a few inches and easily see the o ring. I used a knife and popped it out and stuck the new one in.

When you go to reinstall the oil filter adapter remember to do the bottom bolt FIRST! You must put the bottom bolt and socket in place when you put it back into position because it will not go back in because of the lack of room. So start with the bottom and once it's tight then do the other two.
