Default 91 Accord Fast Idle

I have an intermittent problem that seems to be occurring more frequently.

The motor wants to idle between 2500 and 3000 rpms. It does not matter how hot the engine is. If I sit at idle for more than 30 seconds, the rpms drop down to around 1200rpms. The minute I start to move the rpms jump back up.

Some days all is fine but most days I can drive down the road without touching the gas with rpms around 2500.

Any ideas?

You might want to do a SEARCH on IDLE problems -- you will find many postings.

In the meantime, is your gas pedal or the throttle cable binding? A little solvent may help.

Thanks gulfview. I'll try that search again.

Yes, I lubed the cable to no avail.

Throttle cable does have a little slack in it. I've tried CRC spray and graphite cable lube with no change.

I was under the hood today checking the oil and I played with a few wires on the left hand side of the motor. DEFINATELY made it worse. RPMs are pegged at 3,000. Again, if I sit in neutral for 30 seconds the RPMs drop down but while driving every time I push in the clutch they race.

I will take pix and either post em here or provide a link as to what I was messing with.
