Factory in the US would be 87. Being an EXI I'll guess you are not in north america.....I think in Canada they were EX_R.
Bottom line, car being that old I don't think the fuel octane is your issue.
So how about you give us the details of the issue you are having and more info on the car and we can go from there?

Yeah your right not the us. Australia mate😉 I have just replaced the vss and that fixed the other probs. Its a 94 made sold as 95. 4 door sedan 2.2 litre auto. Its running rough vibrates at idle but not at speed and gear change from 3rd to top seems to drag on sometimes also bit clunky on some changes not always depends on the traffic. Any ideas besides changing plugs & leads done that no effect. Thanks for any feedback guys . Id shout you a real beer but your not here so I'll have it for you cheers😁 crackers

I like playing detective
When the engine is at normal op temp, what is the rpm when in D?
A good cleaning of the throttle body and idle air control valve can't hurt anything and does not cost much. When cleaning the TB be sure to get both sides of the butterfly and the edges where it would "seat" when at idle.
When was the last time the trans fluid was changed?
Next, I'd inspect the throttle control cable - this runs from the TB to the trans - for proper adjustment.

Fix the engine running issues first. Transmission control logic and shifting characteristics can be greatly affected by how the engine is running.
What color is the trans fluid? When was the last time it was drained/changed?
Fluid should be within the hash marks of the dipstick, if you live in a hilly area fill the dipstick to the top of the hash marks.
If the upshift is erratic or harsh, it could be the NM/NC sensors on the right side cover of the transmission are coated in ferrous material. This will reduce resolution of the magnetic pickups. This may or may not set a code, but if they are fouled it will affect how the transmisison upshifts.
Verify that the throttle cable between the transmission and throttle body is adjusted so that there is no slack nor tension on the cable with the engine fully warmed up and throttle closed. Verify the transmission throttle lever fully returns to its at rest position and adjust the cable so when the throttle body blade begins to open the lever begins to move up.
