honda2.2 liter engine head bolts do they need RTV
A friends 2.2 liter engines head gasket was replaced and now it smokes and has antifreeze in the oil. I believe that some of the head bolts need RTV on them.

what was the reason why the headgasket was changed in the first place was it because of the same concern? there could be a number of things. maybe improper torquing the headbolt.. maybe defective gasket.. maybe warped head/block. need more info.

agreed. and maybe it is leaking somewhere else. intake manifold gasket too possibly?? Defintely need more info. And aren't head bolts T-T-Y anyhow?

It means torque to yield and that they are to be used only the one time. Honda head bolts are not TTY. They can be reused. Although a good practice would be to replace them.

Did you guys torque them to specs? Could also be warp head or block. A defective headgasket mentioned earlier could be the culprit too.

The torque to yield method is sometimes called yield controlled tightening or joint controlled tightening.
I know some head bolts for some vehicles are TTY, but I did not know if the Accord's were, never had to pull the head off yet.......*crosses fingers* *knock on wood*
