1993 Accord LX - Integrated Control Unit
The dashboard indicator that tells you which doors are open is illuminating ALL of the door lights, even though each door is closed.
I came across a page online that suggested it could be a faulty Integrated Control Unit.
Anyone else ever experienced this?

Re: 1993 Accord LX - Integrated Control Unit
1. Normally when you open any door, trunk lid (coupe or sedan) or tailgate (wagon) , a ground is provided for the appropriate indicator, and the indicator light goes on. The light stays on as long as the door is open, and goes off when the door is closed.
2. Since all the doors indicate open, the issue can be faulty Safety Indicator Circuit (which is built into the gauge assembly) or something (such as wiring from the integrated control unit) is grounding all the separate door wires leading to the Safety Indicator.
You can possibly unplug the integrated control unit from the under-dash fuse/relay box to see door indicators on the dash remain on.

Re: 1993 Accord LX - Integrated Control Unit
no alarm system - there was a ground fault at some point in the past, causing the right front parking lamp to stay on while the car was off.
That has since resolved itself (?) a while ago, but now the doors all show "open".
Thanks for the tip on unplugging the ICU - I'll try that possibly tonight when I get home. Could unplugging the ICU cause any other issues that I can anticipate?

Re: 1993 Accord LX - Integrated Control Unit
Unplugging the integrated control unit is only used as a temporary test to see if the safety indicator's door open lights remain on.
Unplugging the icu will affect the following circuits:
• Intermittent Wiper Control Circuit
• Side Marker Flasher Relay Circuit
• Seat Belt/Key-in Beeper Circuit
• Lights-on Reminder Circuit
• Low Oil Pressure Flasher Circuit
• Rear Window Defogger Timer Circuit

Side marker flasher relay circuit, huh?
I wonder if I could very well have a bad ICU...that plus the door signal display... hmmmm
I'll keep ya posted.

Unplugged the icu, turned the key to the second click and the signal lights, after a few moments, slowly illuminated. :/
Problem exists without icu plugged in...

Re: 1993 Accord LX - Integrated Control Unit
So were looking for a short to ground, a short to power or a faulty integrated control unit. The service manual I downloaded doesn't have an active link index so I gotta scroll through 1800 pages to find what we need and for some reason the schematics, connector views and diagnostic procedures are not next to each other so wtf but we'll get it. Looking at the schematic I posted, we can rule out power to the ICU, the cluster and more specifically the combination indicator and bulbs, cause they work!...a little too well. Where to start with the multi-meter is the question. The ground issue in the past for the parking light staying on is interesting. It looks like from the cluster's main printed circuit, power goes through the bulbs and they share a common ground. It also looks like the ICU is connected in circuit between the bulbs and the door switches. Do the trunk light and dome light work? I'm making sense of this diagram but not well enough.

Re: 1993 Accord LX - Integrated Control Unit
Since the problem still exist without the integrated control unit, the issue is probably with the Safety Indicator Circuit (which is built into the gauge assembly).

You can see if any components are damage and if not, try re-soldering the joints on the circuit board. Otherwise, you could replace that circuit board from a used cluster.

Re: 1993 Accord LX - Integrated Control Unit
Thanks for the come back on my thread.(https://honda-tech.com/honda-accord-.../#post50606766). I've tried all the fixes suggested in your thread about the ICU and found NO JOY! I have also tried several test on the brake lamp indicator warning light on the dash. I think it is something wrong in the dash cluster, but I haven't bothered since this is more of an annoyance than anything. It doesn't appear to affect any other systems. So for now I am just ignoring it until I have more of a reason to tear into the dash panels.
The only thing I did read somewhere along the way was it might be caused by a charging system that is working poorly, but I have not been able to find any more information about that theory.
I'm going to post this reply in your thread so if you stumble across a solution I might hear about it.
Thanks
