1992 accord transmission help
I have a 1992 honda accord automatic with 114000 miles. I have had trouble as it would not go into first or fourth gear. I had it diagnosed by 3 independent Honda shops. All said it was the transmission based on their complete mechanical, electrical computer diagnostic. I have had them try and replace the tranny 4 times ( yes 4 used trannys all with the same issue after a few days ) All with used transmissions. Each one has worked for 5 days to two weeks and then it goes back to the exact same problem. No 1st or 4th gear. It worked perfectly for that time and then kaput!! Same old issue. I have tried the dealership with calls and 1800 honda and nobody seems to know. Any ideas?
Feel helpless! Thank you

Re: 1992 accord transmission help
Locate TCU next to ECU. Remove TCU. Open TCU, look for burnt capacitors/resistors on the board. Go to TECHAUTO link in my sig, click on 'Transmission' and be amazed at the $0.35 fix.
Of course if your CEL or D4 light are on or blinking check for codes first, if neither lamp illuminates when you turn the ignition to II(ON) then you will need to replace the lamps to be able to read any codes. Jumper two wire blue connector that is over on the passenger kick panel.
Unless you have a PGM-Carb F18A, then pull back the carpet and read the blinking LED codes first.

Re: 1992 accord transmission help
Thank you. I am attempting to check out the TCU. The one questions is, why would the 4 separate used transmissions work perfectly for a few days to a week and then stop functioning and going back to the problem of only having a second and third gear. Not sure why it would not have the same problem immediately after the used transmissions have been installed, rather than the delayed reaction of a week before it acts up again every time? Thank you!
