1990 Honda Accord No-Start Problem:: Please Help
I have a 90' Accord 4 dr. EX with 200,000 miles. Two weeks ago it died in an intersection. after careful review I noticed the ECU fuse was blown, after replacing the fuse the car ran fine until friday when it started cutting out and running poorly all of the sudden. Then it lost all power and died while going down the road. I turned the key off and back on to try starting it back up and the check engine light stays on the entire time and the sport shift light blinks continuously. The main relay does not click and the CE light stays on while the car will turn over but will not make an attempt to start. The Main relay is brand new and the fuse is not blown on the ECU this time. sorry for the long post, any help is greatly appreciated!

Gear position sensor that senses which position your stick is in or the key ignition switch is bad.

Re: 1990 Honda Accord No-Start Problem:: Please Help
Could the ignition switch cause the engine to die and then not attempt to start at all? Is there a way to test it or do I just need to change the part to find out?? Also where is the computer for ignition control and how would I know if it is bad? When I turn on the key the CEL stays on the entire time and does not engage the main relay or fuel pump. Thanks for your help guys, it really bums me out that this car won't run.

I feel your frustration. Mine is doing the same thing except it cranks then dies, cranks then dies and then sometimes cranks but doesn't turn. Let me know what you end up doing? I heard it could be the main relay, but I think its hard to get to.

I have changed my main relay, it is brand new. I think yours is probably the ignition switch! My Honda is doing something very strange, I am wondering about the computer for ignition control.... I don't know much about it but I am doing some investigating.

Re: 1990 Honda Accord No-Start Problem:: Please Help
Thanks for the help guys but I am still having problems, I am trying to jump the computer and get the codes to find out what is going on however when I jump the connector and turn the key on it doesn't give me and codes at all or do anything, the CEL just stays on the entire time and doesn't blink to give me any codes at all. At this point I am thinking that it is the computer that has gone bad..... I don't know anything about the computer in my Honda and I was hoping someone on here knows about them and can tell me how to know for sure if it is bad and/or how exactly to replace the computer. I have a parts car that runs so I was hoping to put the computer out of my parts car in the one I drive and see if it works. Where do I start and how do I make that happen????

I checked the flashing light on the computer and it gave me a bunch of codes. 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 14. Please help me figure out what the problem is and thanks in advance!

Re: 1990 Honda Accord No-Start Problem:: Please Help
Whoa! thats alot of codes! Some might be older codes stored in the memory. Disconnect the battery or pull out the backup fuse for 30 seconds and read the codes again. This might narrow it down a touch.

Oh and one more thing, the light was flashing from the box on the right meaning it's from the transmission right? I can't get any codes from the left box and no power to it at all. Does that mean my ECM is bad?

Re: 1990 Honda Accord No-Start Problem:: Please Help
When I turn the key on the CEL turns on and never goes off like it should. The ECU fuse is not blown but it did blow 2 weeks before the car died, I replaced the fuse and it ran for 2 weeks before it died completely.

Re: 1990 Honda Accord No-Start Problem:: Please Help
Does anyone know what would cause the CEL light to stay on continuously? I have checked both ECU fuses and even switched out the ECU and still nothing. I am going crazy trying to figure out what is wrong with this car and any help would be greatly appreciated.

bookmark this and here are your codes....
1 O2A - Oxygen sensor #1
2 O2B - Oxygen sensor #2
3 MAP - manifold absolute pressure sensor
7 TPS - throttle position sensor
8 TDC - top dead centre sensor
14 IAC (EACV) - idle air control valve
in other words get an H23 intake manifold that has the throttle body and all the sensors still attached..... the reason for using the H23 is for more of a horsepower gain and it looks a hell of alot better then the lanky f22a1/a4 intake manifold.... dont get an h22 because its vtec and it will not fit.... thank you and have a good night...
btw sorry i didn't read through the whole thread...

Re: 1990 Honda Accord No-Start Problem:: Please Help
One more quick thing, I am wondering if I am getting the right codes. I pulled up the carpet on the passenger side floor and looked at the flashing LED, the codes I got were from the box on the right. Is that the ECU or is it the TCU?? I worry that it is from the TCU and that I cannot get codes from the ECU...
