Okay guys I work for the government and have worked for them since I was 17 when I was 18 I was convicted of an assault . Basically I got into a fight and while I was trying to leave ol dude got in front of my car and I put him into a coma and was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. I plea bargained and got 1 year in jail and 5 years probation with anger management . I completed everything and did not spend a year in jail only 13 days and was kicked out because of overcrowding (yeah I know i was lucky) . Anyways at this point I still work for the government and I'm looking for a second job so I could furnish my apartment quickly . I need a couch , table etc etc. and its a bitch a real bitch even though my felony was reduced to a misdemeanor its still a bitch. Lowes, Home Depot, Costco , Sears, Macys, basically any big place wont hire me for a part time position . They interview me but I always get asked about it. Its terrible and it sort of makes me wonder what if I lost my job =X how hard will it be to find another . I really want another job and I am scared shitless and will take care of my job to the best of my abilities so I wont go through anything. On another note I have a AA in Computer Science a AA in Sociology and a BS from UCLA will be added to my resume in June and that still doesn't matter. Dont you guys think that maybe employers should give a second chance to these (me) people ? Its sort of heart breaking on my part because I'm really trying and I'm getting ****. I would even settle to work at a gas station at night or some job that no one wants like picking up dog **** or road kill I give a ****. Sigh: im just ranting guys . Thanks for listening.
Pizza delivery driver!!! They dont do any checks of any kind at my place and everybody gets along fine. If you truly dont act like a felon, then nobody will know the difference. Plus its an evening job so you can do it while keeping your day job, and you get paid out cash, so if you want it can be "tax free money" if that's what your looking for........
typical background checks only go back 5 years. if you're looking for a job that requires any type of clearance then you're screwed. supposedly those background checks will find everything you've ever done, even if it was expunged or sealed.
I need a couch , table etc etc. and its a bitch a real bitch even though my felony was reduced to a misdemeanor its still a bitch.
You do not have a felony on your record, my friend. It would be in your best interest to stop reporting that you do to prospective employers. As mentioned, you may want to look into having your record expunged as well, as that will remove all records (even on a misdemeanor it can be worth it).
Yeah dude, don't report that ****. I've been charged with two separate felonies from two separate incidents and was not convicted of anything. You basically have to answer yes to a question that says "Have you ever been CHARGED with a felony", but you can answer no to "Have you ever been CONVICTED of a felony".
People make dumb mistakes when they are young, most employers overlook it if it wasn't rape, murder or child pornography.
First off, the fear of ruining my life keeps me from hitting people with my car.
Anyway, you should really look into UPS. They provide benefits even if you work part time, there's always the possibility to work full time, there's many positions/tasks and time frames to pick from...good stuff. Getting experience like that and holding the job for a couple yrs will overshadow your criminal record.
