What are your top 3 favorite cars of the 1950's? This era had a lot of great finned designs and a lot of the cars were all about style. Let's see what you guys come up with. I'll start.
The 50's were the beginning of the Corvette. Sleek, powerful lines with a stout engine to back up the looks. The legacy which is the Corvette continues to today and the body remains a stunning addition to the automotive world. Then and today the Corvette continues to put pressure on all of the other manufacturers to come out with something hip, powerful, cool and affordable. Timeless formula, that's why it's one of my top 3.
The Bel Air is such a great car. Style, fins, roomy, big. What more could you ask for? A wagon! The Nomad fills an area of the industry with so much style that it made everyone take a second look at wagons. To me, the Nomad was the beginning of cool wagons. With optional powerplants like a small block Chevy, great two tone paint jobs, interior room which is out of this world, the Nomad is a winner for the 50's and for today. It's a car that I think many manufacturers can learn from in its history. Classic, collectible, memorable, and rare. The Nomad has to be one of my Top 3 for the 50's.
Last but not least. Chrysler Imperial.
If fins are your thing, look no further than the Chrysler Imperial. At its peak of popularity, Chrysler managed to come out with a finned car that put the rest to shame in the styling department. This car looks like it's just about to take off. Ignoring the interior room and other unimportant things like power and comfort, the Imperial is all about style. If you were looking for a ride dressed to impress, the Imperial was it. Style, that's why it's one of my favs.
It's not who you know, it's what you know.
