Stock it's not going to be much faster than an M20, low 15s or something. People use the M50 becuase of it's reliability and potential, in stock form it only has 20 more horses and weighs a bit more. Oh and non-vanos > vanos.

You can go turbo or you can just throw in hotter cams and a software upgrade for over 200 to the wheels. You could also throw in an M30 for around 3,000 total (Motor, radiator, driveshaft, misc bolts, gaskets, etc. etc. etc.). Many options.

It's prone to failing and causing complications and doesn't offer any significant power gains. The M20B25 (Non-Vanos) has dual valve springs, lower compression (10:1), meatier valve stems, hotter cams and you can throw the intake cam on the exhaust side and run one Schrick 252 for the intake for a 240/242 setup with high lift.

Yeah, so i was thinking about putting a turbo and a nitrous kit on my iX. Do you think the drivetrain will hold? Click the image to open in full size.

Mid 13's

horrible swap iff u casre about 1/4 mile.

Look into a 540i engine swap in an E30 if you want speed.

I would do an LSx swap if you want speed. It will probably end up being cheaper, lighter, mre reliable, and more powerful. There are a few guys on LS1 tech that have done it, some with e30's and some with e36's.

And the E30 is a horrible platform if you're a drag racer. The V8 swap isn't easy by any means and leaves no space at all in the engine bay. Don't buy an E30 to drag race, buy a muscle car or something.

A euro S50B32 is going to cost a whole hell of a lot more than 4k.

I saw prices more in the $11k range for those motors. That's way too much to sink into an old E30.

I think best option is to build a nice little 2.7L M20 and have plenty of fun with that without killing the bank account. If you want to spend a little more, a decent S50 can be had for a little bit more. I don't see the M50 being worthwhile, IMO.

M50s can be had for under 1000. It's definitely worthwhile, pretty much everyone I know that's done the stroker says they wish they had just done the M50 swap instead.
