Default Panhandling 101 - The basics. What NOT to do

I was driving home yesterday, and there was a guy holding a sign at the stop light asking for money.

He was about my age, got clean jeans that were in better condition then mine. He also had bigger built than me, so I know he was not hungry.

But what's funny was he was holding a sign that said.

"Vietnam Vet - Need your Help. Please give."

I would not have a problem with that, but wait a minute. When did they start sending children to fight in the Vietnam war? The last American came home in 1972. This would have place him to be 4 years old (or less) when he was drafted. No wonder he was traumatized, and need our help. We been sending kids to fight a man's war?

The youngest man that served in Vietnam would be 47 years old today (assuming he served at the age of 18).

Im down with hookin up a bruda in need but damn, some guys just have no shame. Dressing in brand new looking clothing smelling like polo sport cologne. But what i dont get is why those fake vets or homeless posers panhandle? they cant be gettin that much money right?

They can get quite a bit of money actually (local paper did an article on it a while ago). There's a "homeless newspaper" in my town called "Hard Times" and you are supposed to be drug free and homeless to sell it. I've heard there's one guy that works a popular corner and at the end of the day gets in his car and drives home... makes $30K/yr.

Dude, I saw a bum here in CO on "The Hill" in Boulder, panhandling. I went into the arcade for bout an hour, come out, and he was gone. Went back to the parking lot and what do I see? The bum, getting into a Mercedes 740iL that I parked next to. I gave him a look like "you lazy *** bastard", but didn't say anything. I don't give money to bums any more. For once I would like someone to hold up a sign that said.

"I'm too lazy too work, please give me some money so I can buy drugs and alcohol to get high on."

Hey, at least be honest.

Not sure if this is a problem in other areas but I worked at a supermarket in Philly and some people would come in and pay with foodstamps and then go outside and get into a brand new Mercedes... I would think damn what am I doing wrong? I pay with my own money for food, I work, I make nothing and here these people are coming in with food stamps and then getting into a car that cost as much as my house at the time. I wish someone would catch these poor excuses for human beings. Click the image to open in full size.

i was walking out from a Reds baseball game with my girl Last year, and it's quite a popular hangout for all the "beggars." well, there was a family walking next to us as we were approaching a homeless dude. he asks the lady for "some spare change to get a samich or a burger, i haven't eaten in days." her son was chewing on a HUGE soft pretzel that had like one bite missing from it. the mom grabs it out of her sons hand, nicely hands it to the beggar and politley says "here you are sir."

the dude gets all pissed and throws the pretzel on the ground and walks away.

it just goes to show they want money for their smack and chronic. ****ERS!! Click the image to open in full size.

I was coming home from the Bite of Seattle about a week ago and we see this guy waiving at everybody, smiling and everything. It was a traffic jam so EVERYBODY got to see him. I was like, "what the hell is this nut doing? He must be crazy". We pull up closer and he lifts up a sign that he had lying on the ground. It said, "Why life? I need a beer". It was some funny *** ****.

I have one more story...

A couple years ago I was walking in downtown Seattle going to a Mariners game and I was meeting some friends somewhere. Right outside of a Pub they had the "Ms. Budweiser" hydroplane on display. I was walking across the crosswalk and a black guy comes up to me and asks straight up, "yo, I need 500 dollas can you hook me up man?, look I know you got money I just need it really bad". I almost laughed at him when he said that... and I was only like 13/14 years old. I just walked off and said I didn't have anything but a little change and pulled out about 57 cents. He even took that. That's pretty bad when they ask a young kid that. I could accept if it was an adult, but someone who just entered their teens? Kinda desperate..

I was in D.C. attending a convention and a friend of mines and i went to mcdonalds to get a bite to eat. Up ahead we saw a homeless man asking people for money so my friend goes "watch this". When we come up to where the homeless guy is hes like "hey young bloods how you guys doing, can you guys hook a brother up with some money, im very hungry and havent eated in days" so my friend goes sure, here you go and gives him our supersized french fries. He looks at us all shocked and is like no no, i cant take your food thats what your gonna eat, thats your food i cant take your food, were like sure you can, your hungrier than we are and you need it more than us. He got all pissed off and just walked away. heheh, i wouldve at least taken the fries with me.
