Default Overhaulin the show

I'm sure it's been discussed here before but anyway, is there a single person that actually believes they do these builds in 7 days? I feel like I'm having my intelligence insulted when they reveal a car and try to tell you it was completed in a 7 day time period......anyone have any inside info on this?

I assumed it really was 7 days... but I also assumed there's like a crew of 20 guys behind the scenes you don't see. It's do-able as long as you get it in for piant early.

...why would they lie though?

I mean, they usually have like 30+ people working on the build non-stop. I never thought it was impossible for them to get it done in the time frame they give.

You cant be serious? B/c a "deadline" adds drama and suspense to an otherwise dull plotline.

Anyone ever watch Car Warriors? Dumb show and ugly cars for the most part but I like seeing automotive fail. I get the feeling alot of meth usage goes into their builds.

I don't watch the show because of the drama/deadlines... I watch the show because they make ****ing awesome cars.

The builds are done in 7 days, but they have a few weeks to start gathering and ordering parts before they actually get the car. Most of it is just bolt on parts with minimal fabrication taking place. With 30+ people working around the clock it doesnt take that much time. Theres a local company thats provided three transmissions for that show. One time they agreed to rebuild one in two days but they couldnt get the parts in time so the owner of the company took out the trans from his personal car and sent it in.

One of the guys that had his car overhauled on that show made a huge thread about his experience. It was like 8 years ago so i dont remember what site it was on, but im pretty sure there was a thread made here that linked to it so you might be able to dig it up.

I've always wanted to see these vehicles long after they get them. See if people are taking care of them or killing them. Like, where are all the "Pimp My Ride" cars?

Anything West Coast Customs builds falls apart in a month or two. I'm sure 90% of those rides are in little cubes now.

they own the car for at least a year after the show, while you are obligated to take the car to local car shows and events. heard they gather parts too - yet the local shop that they worked with years ago (foreign autobody, gardena) said they had two weeks to finish as the episode didn't specify the typical 7 day deal. it was a chevelle that they re-built ...

I know there are some film makers on here from the west coast. Someone should make a documentary about these reality car shows.

I heard most of the cars ended up on eBay.

I have a friend who either knows the guy who owned the 240SX they built to look like it was from Need for Speed Underground and she said once he got the car back, he pulled out all the monitors and tvs they pulled in and painted over the ricey paintjob they did.

I remembered they did a where are they now episode and it was said that at least 2 of the cars were totaled. 1 guy got into an accident the day he got his car back. The other guy I wasn't surprised it happened. The car he got "pimped" was a Toyota Corolla that was only like 2 or 3 years old when it was on the show and it had so much body damage from all the accidents he got into. It was said that he wrecked the rental car they gave him when they were working on his car too.

I saw one of the cars Pimp My Ride did, I think it was a red Escort. It looked like ***. Paint job looked shitty and the body was wavy. But I wasn't surprised.

The guy that wrecked his car the same day was that green Chevelle (one of the few cars that was actually done pretty good for PMR)

That Corolla was a complete POS before and after it was on the show. And the driver wrecked the rental car they gave him as well? What a ******* toolbag.

They have all the parts on site. All they have to do is strip the car, body work, paint, assemble. Everything else they show is just drama.

You could easily do that in 7 days with 30+ guys working 24-7.

From what I read in interviews the planning process is usually the most difficult and time consuming for them. The 2 minute segment they play on PMR saying they'll do this is bs. They said they'll easily spend up to 12 hours thinking up things to do that they could actually pull off.
